Seen this aid floating around and wonder if any TBN'ers try it.

Uncle Gus has product you spray wires etc. also cloth pouch bag you place inside tractor and will keep mice etc. away from chewing or nesting.

I once tried Critter Ridder. That and the ultrasonic mice repellers, I found were just a joke.

I don't know Uncle Gus. I keep small open boxes of D-Con under the hoods of my vehicles.

When I read the subject on your thread all I could think of was the guy that did a kiddie tv show on channel 9 in Manchester back in the 60s.

Care to provide a link? If this actually works it would be nice to try. Googling "uncle gus" turned up a lot of hits for a marina in Texas as well as the aforementioned tv host.

We had Uncle Bobby. I think the mice lived in his old sweater.

Dryer sheets, peppermint, ultrasonic deterrents, I’ve found them all to be so much snake oil. D-con works, but I hate digging dead rats and mice out of the woodpile and insulation. I don’t like having it around anyways because of my dog and livestock, and also have killed cats with secondary poisoning, although it supposedly doesn’t happen. It’s a bit more labor intensive but the second best thing I’ve found is made by Victor. The best of course is a good old fashioned cat.

I've tried some pretty exotic things also. The very best - a couple good 'ol barn cats.

+1 on a cat. Unfortunately, the best mousers I've had also tended to be the ones who roamed the back field and woods the most and became part of the food chain themselves within a couple years.

I agree with Jstpssng on the (lack of) effectiveness of items that are supposed to repel mice. Add charcoal to that list too.

Yes, they work well, but as has been pointed out already, those outside all the time kitty's usually don't last long. Coyotes get 'em around here. Our inside/outside kitty has lasted several years, and he runs his "trap line" around all of the outbuildings nearly every day. We don't have mice around here anymore. He comes in well before dark to avoid the coyotes. So far so good. He is a friendly kitty too.

Peppermint oil, fresh cab & moth balls combo work for me.Plus we have 3 barn cats that thin the mice.

Another +1 on the cats.. we are lucky enough to have 2 that frequent or property almost daily (they are not ours but we truly appreciate them & don't know where they are even from).... try not to use poison because of the dogs & the secondary poisonings (which does happen)... tried peppermint oil, dryer sheets, mothballs all with limited to some results.... Bucket Traps are my FRIEND.... (year round)... Electronic devices have not worked at all for us...

I also have had some luck with Hedge Apples when & if I can get them....

but a good mouser (works for chipmunks too) out does all of the above...

The funny thing is the first year we put in the ultrasonic repellers, they worked great. Mice all vanished from the buildings. Second year, we had a few "signs" here and there. Now this year I think they are so used to the "noise" that it's like a dinner bell. I don't know if they just got used to the sound over time, or if somehow the output from the units diminishes over time?
