Underlayment for Metal Roof

this is one brand I have used....it clamps on to the standing seams with set screws so no penetration of the roofing material......thing I like about it is you slide a strip of the metal roof material onto the bar so the color matches the roof.........looks nice...... S-5! | Snow Retention | Introduction ........if you are in an area where not a lot of metal roofs are done look for a commercial roofer or call the metal roofing manufacturers as they will have a list of approved installers.......most hidden fastener/standing seam roof manufacturers require the installers to be certified by the manufacturer for the warranty to apply........Jack

I helped install a friends metal roof and also re-built his deck.
His deck railing is downstream from the roof and being the procrastinator that he is he ordered wrong hardware for the railing.
WE installed railing with hardware he had with promise that he'd add/install proper hardware B4 winter.
Well you guessed it.
The roof shed the snow load and took out his railing.
LOL, he is really a good guy but guess he will not learn.
AS they say: You can take the horse to water but can't make it drink!

I had 45ft wide barns on the farm and I have seen snow slide off of them and take down a full grown cow. Hit her right in the middle and she looked like a sway backed nag for a few seconds then hit the ground. I thought I had lost a cow but she got up and ran away. I hate to think what would have happen if it had been me or a calf. Ed

Lot of weight up there. Take a huge slab of snow, some ice at the bottom sometimes, and while it oozes down the slope it takes chimneys, vent pipes, and whatever else you have sticking thru the roof with it. I had to relocate my chimney near the peak and do some heavy duty bracing of my electric feed to keep them still attached by each spring. Got a 40 by 80 pole building, with maybe a 25' by 42' glacier slowly moving down each side from the peak.

I've seen WR Grace products put under metal roofs on commercial buildings here.

I used synthetic under my shingles when replaced a couple years ago, I like it lots better than the old paper I used before.

I didn't put snow guards on my barn as I want the snow to slide off. Which reminds me, I need to go out and get some of that snow off. Oh Wait, it's in the 70's this christmas. Santa better have some wheels on that sleigh tonight.

Thank you all for the information. I just signed a contract this morning for a standing seam metal roof--the supplier with the membrane underlayment. Once they start (about 3-4 weeks), I will post pictures of the process.
