Dumdog your loyalty is honorable! Yes! I gave the tractor more time with the thought that possibly it was the operator and not the tractor. I agree the posts have been honest and informative without any bias. I call em as I see em. I have a underpowered tractor and I'm not happy. I want to share my mistakes and misfortune with all, especially the NEWBIE. If only the dealer told me demo's were available or come to my property this would of been avoided. Paying a few more dollars for a 3830 was never an issue. All things being equal, the tractor is underpowered, and has some Quality control issues along with poor design, especially the dumb seat switch have you taped yours yet, truthfully now!!!!

Only have about a half hour on it checking it out. In the process of looking at something and leaned forward the tractor died out. This must be the switch. Guess I will learn to live with it. But time will tell.

A friend just got a L48 and the seat also has the safety switch under it. I kept stalling the tractor leaning forward to see where I was going. I don't like the safety switch and would remove it if it were my tractor. The only good thing about that switch is that if you roll your tractor over, and you come off the seat just a bit, the engine will stall and not be damaged. Other than that, I can not find any reasonable reason to keep that switch in place. It would drive me crazy if I had to live with that alone, forgetting about the lack of power that you are experiencing. If the tractor has low hours, possibly the dealer will take it back and sell you another tractor that is more to your liking???? It doesn't hurt to ask... Junk...

The exhaust pipe blows black fumes and soot all over the FEL and gets inside the cab.

I did not think there was a cab option on the 3130... /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif

Other than these items the tractor is similar to a b2400 ONLY THE B2400 is stronger.

I doubt the B2400 is stronger. More hp/lb, or course...but there is considerable size difference between the two tractors and overall your 3130 will be the harder worker. Might not get to the mountain top the fastest, but it will drag a lot more up each time... /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

CURTIS makes the cab, thought I mentioned that? The B2400 develops 18hp at the pto with a weight ratio that's consideralby lower making the B2400 far superior, all things considered. The seat switch has a white lever just use packing tape. Oh! it is also a magnetic interlock type. I would call it a 3way switch for safety, but imagine getting on and off the tractor to operate the backhoe?? Sort of Safety features gone awry. It may cause another unsafe condition to occur, moving tractor with the boom.

As you mentioned, you made a mistake. I suspect either your expectations were larger or you still have a problem. Either way, if I was you and had a tractor that was as new as this, I would sell it. You would be suprised how easily a clean, warranted tractor will sell for. Advertise in California. One huge bonus is whoever buys it here will not be paying sales tax. That will make it very attractive. Keep it and be miserable or sell it and buy another brand and more HP. Your experience here is not reflected by many if any other owners of the L3130 to the degree you have experienced.

When you mention the fumes, power steering and .1 mph, this is where I suspect you have issues regardless of technique. In low, unless your tied to a tree, the tractor will easily reach 4 mph, the max speed in that range. If the engine is OK, then the HST is not.

At any rate, I wish you the best with your situation. I'm pretty sure faced with the same issues your experiencing, my dealer would really work with me to either diagnose or replace the tractor. With a unscratched, very low hour machine, (basically new) you are in a great position to do something about it right now. That's what I did. I had a L48 that after many hours of cleaning and about 200 hours was sold for near new. The fella who bought it wondered why I was asking so much ($2000 less then retail). I said because it really boils down to about $4000 less when you consider the 7.25% tax that he would pay if buying new. He agreed and thought the tractor a good deal which it was. I got a ton of work done for one year. It cost me $4000 or so to do that which was not great, but in the end, I ended up with what I needed, a L3830 HST with TnT. I suggest you consider it for your tractor.

I have yet to find on either on my old L48 or my current L3830 where leaning forward off the seat was ever necessary when traveling forward. I agree that if your the only user and you need to get off the seat while driving the tractor, then you could consider disconnecting the seat kill switch. Perhaps your not accustom to driving larger tractors. Drive around an industrial tractor and you will be amazed at how much more you can see on these little compacts. But even on the industrials, you quickly find where the front lip of the bucket is and what lies in front of it.

I'll echo the other posters saying something is wrong with how you are using it or something is wrong with the tractor. It shouldn't smoke under that load at all in low range.

Tractors by nature are underpowered, the 55 hp tractor we use haying won't move it self up hills in high gear even when cruising down the road.

Try looking at these pics, this is a 3130 and your machine should be capable of doing this stuff:

You keep saying that it won't pull a hill and that it smokes, are you letting up on the HST pedal as the engine is pulling down?

Any maybe just maybe he got a bad one. There's bad cars coming of assembly lines every year.

Another problem could be expectations.

I have a B7500, much smaller, and it does all I've asked, actually it does more that I hard imagined.

Maybe the dealer sold you what you wanted to pay for price wise and you wanted $5,000 more worth of tractor.

Going up the hill behind the house. If I have nothing on the back (except the carryall) 4X4 high does the trick, if I have my rotary cutter or tiller I must use 4X4 low.

The hydro pedal is not a gas (accelerator) pedal. The throttle is on the dash.

Maybe the dealer sold you what you asked for price wise but expected $5000 more tractor.
