that is pretty cool. There is a old iron ore quarry near here that has supposely an old excavator still in the bottom of the last quarry that is now a lake. Dunno if it true or not but would be cool to find out.

when i lived in covington la we had a qravel pit we used to swim in all the time. they drained it one year and found an old mack dump truck at the bottom, about 30 feet down. the story is the motor blew in it and they just left it at the end of the job.

There's an old book written for young men called Bulldozer by Stephen Meader. He finds a dozer that has fallen through the ice and salvages it for his own use and builds an excavating business with it.
I enjoyed it as a kid and got it on loan from another library a couple years ago to re-read it. It's in print again.

Looks like either an old Poclain or Leibherr excavator or maybe an O&K. Id like to know if it was in the ocean or a limestone quarry. Theres a an old legend that an old steam or power shovel is in the bottom of an old gravel pit here. Im not fond of diving to look at it but thaters also and old train car or to and an old dump truck according tothe oldtimers here. I have a friend looking at the place right now he sas if he buys it I can drain the pit to look for it. Its a good possibility that the one here is a steam shovel given some of the accounts that had seen it because there was 2 different machines there a steam and a gas shovel.
In an older Classic Plant and Machinery mag i have shows a man that knew of an old TC12 Euclid dozer the one that had 2 engines. the mine flooded and was being abandoned and the TC12 blew an engine and would only walk a circle. he drained the pit with large pumps nearly a month to find an undewater land slide covered it. Then they dug it out an winched it up on a trailer and have started restoration. The old dozer looked pretty decent for several years under water. Thanks for posting

Every year, the national guard and a local diving club spend a day with divers and cranes around the John's Hole Bridge over the Snake River in Idaho Falls cleaning stuff off the bottom. It's said that the river is 50 feet deep right there. Quite often they'll come up with some pretty interesting stuff... cars, trucks, an old ambulance, some old horse drawn equipment. It's always fun to see the stories as the local media comb their archives for original stories of when the stuff went in the river to begin with. Some stuff predates all of the local media archives. Apparently that bridge wasn't always as safe to cross as it is now.

Caver, I read T model Tommy and Buldozer Bill when I was in elem school and loved them. I bet after nearly 50 years I could still quote some of the lines, such as "reaching for the corner" meaning go to 1st gear going up a hill with a load of coal. Or when Bill said the D-2 Covered itself with glory after pulling a barn across ine in the winter. I loved those books and appreciate your mentioning them now. later, Nat
