I think it's time to take my NH 1925D to the dealer for evaluation and repairs, but wanted to see if anyone could offer any ideas about the problem. The last time I mowed my property, the Rhino finish mower would slow down and even stop in very tall grass, however, the engine did not lug down at all. Then as I was driving up my paved drive in mid-range (I have hydrostatic drive), on a particularly steep part, the engine did lug down to the point that I had to let off to keep it from dying altogether. I had just transversed the same hill earlier that same day. Any ideas of what the problem might be? I checked all of the fluids, and all were full. /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif

It sounds to me like you have two separate problems.

The first problem would be the PTO clutch/brake is not fully engaging. That could be a simple adjustment or it could require your tractor to be split to replace components.

The second problem sounds like trash or water in the fuel filter. If your tractor drives normally on flat ground and then bogs down going up a hill, it is probably related to fuel. Did you engage the PTO going up the hill in your drive? If you want to eliminate the PTO as the problem, engage it and disengage it a few times with nothing attached. If you hear the engine lug down, the problem is the PTO. If not, it is something else.

I hope both problems turn out to be something simple.

Jim covered it pretty well.

Does the mower have a slip clutch? It could be out of adjustment....

I also agree.. for the mower problem.. either a slip clutch out of adjustment.. or the pto clutch is out of adjustment.. or has worn friction discs.

My stepfathers JD 2420 with independent pto just had this problem.. cutting with a 6' cutter. Cutter spun up fine but stalled in high growth.. no effect on the engine. Split the tractor to find all the friction material worn off half the discs..
