Unknown Bird

This bird showed up on our place today. I couldn't find him/her in the bird book and Texas Parks and Wildlife contact page does not allow photo attachments. Can anyone identify this bird? He seemed to prefer to just walk into the brush instead of flying. Thanks.

Morning Don, I think with them being ground nesters, the fireants almost did them in. I know I sure miss them around our place.

Yep its a bobwhite quail. Listen to its call and it'll tell you its name.

Yep, Don, that's a bobwhite alright. I used to hear a few at my place in Sunset when I first bought it in 1992. Now, the fireants are here and all I hear at night is whippoorwills. I really miss the quail. I can remember walking through the tall grass and stirring up a covey of quail. The sound of their beating wings all at once can really startle you if you aren't expecting it.
