Those Buntings are beautiful. Unfortunantly, I have never seen any in our area even though we are located on the bunting range map.

Don. Very nice pics. We have Indigo Buntings, but no Painted Buntings so far.

Tally. How nice of those woodpeckers to pose for you. Great shot.

Jim. Speaking of distinctive calls, we have at least two pairs of Pileated Woodpeckers around our forest this year. They have a call that sounds to me like an exotic jungle bird. I've seen them several times, but haven't gotten a decent pic yet. I have hopes though.

We also have a resident Roadrunner that lives up the hill somewhere, maybe a hundred yards from the house. It's been coming down to the yard for fresh fat grasshoppers. The area right around our house is the only one with the nice green grass the grasshoppers love. The roadrunner is actually pretty tolerant of us and our small dog, but no good pics yet.

We have several roadrunners, but one of them will actually climb our steps and come up on our elevated deck. Here is a picture of him checking out how much rain we got.

I'm learning the hard way how hard it is to get great pics of birds, or wildlife in general. Some guys here have a real tallent and eye for it. Steph and I are rank amatures, but maybe that's what makes it so much fun!!!
