Unsafe operation in this video??

I am surprised the chain did not snap, Lunk Head Central. Did they ever get the rover out of the mud?

Looking at the video again in slow motion, the tractors operator is not using 4wd, although 4wd is not going to help that much. The rover looks to be dug-in to its axles, the only way out being planks under each wheel.

He definitely was using 4wd. A tractor will not pull the rear up that much or in such a sustained manner when in 2wd. That would be enuf for me to know ... even w/o seeing the fronts that are shown spinning in the video. I think you may have focused on one shot where the veiwed front wheel wasnt spinning. The other was. -- Also, no way a decent chain would snap in that application. The tractor tipping forward limits the effect of the jerk too much. Forces remain low. The real danger of that jerk was the [controlled] tip, along with the higher possibility that the chain would come loose from either vehicle.

What about using the bucket cylinder to curl as he backed up.. that would be slow, gentle and I bet it would have pulled the land rover out.

But I also like the idea of lifting the vehicle with the FEL and putting something under wheels...

Now when I was a younger man.... My buddies and I, would have TRIED to get stuck in that mud and then see how many beers it took me to get out...
