Up exhaust it or not?

Nuru -

My dealer didn't actually advise against it in a negative way - other than to say that he didn't think the value of it merited the modification necessary to put it in. He said the amount of exhaust wasn't noticable enough unless you were directly in front of the unit (which I rarely am).

I'm interested in seeing some pictures so I can gauge for myself what this modification looks like, etc. I'm not keen on cutting my hood until I can see what this really looks like.

The 4310 isn't going to have the same exact exhaust stack as what we are now using on the 3000 & 4000 Twenty series models. So the stack on the 4310 is going to be a 1 peice designed exhaust. It stays in one peice. You cut a hole in the side of the hood, not on top like the new series tractors. And no it doesn't interfere at all with opening and closing the hood.

And yes, if you do get an aftermarket cab for your tractor, I highly recommend getting a vertical exhaust. The Jodale Perry Cab is by far the best aftermarket cab you can get, it is not preasurized like the JD Factory Cab so fumes can get in from under the tractor, but the problem is the fumes have a hard time to get out of the tractor, because there are no air leaks in the unit, the windows and everything are just as solid as you would find on a factory cab. There is nothing on the Jodale Perry Cab that is "TENT LIKE" as you would find on a curtis cab.

I will post a picture of my last tractor with the Jodale Perry Cab and Vertical Exhaust for you when I get home. I don't have a picture of it with both Vertical Exhaust and Jodale Perry Cab on this computer. But I will post a picture of the tractor with the Jodale Perry Cab. As you will be able to see it is the closest you can get to having a factory cab as you can get.

Thanks for posting the picture. I will probably stick with the lowered exhaust as it has not been a problem for me - but the stack does look cool!

At least you got a cab! My 1070 has the 'up' exhaust but no cab, so after runnin that thing all day I can say that I stink. But with this new bio-diesel we're using at work, I'm not sure if I smell like a french-fry or not.

I have not tried the bio-diesel yet, but I was considering it. That is interesting you mention the smell as i was wondering that if you put the exhaust over your head and the particles drop on ya, you are gettign rid of the fumes, but sprnkling yourself with those particles we see coming off the trucks aren't ya?

Just to balance the discussion a little bit, I have a 4310 with a Curtis cab and standard exhaust. I hardly ever notice the exhaust odor and don't have any big hankering to replace the exhaust with a vertical one. My stock exhaust pipe does a good job blasting the exhaust forward and left, to the point where part of the front mounted blower gets some black residue on it each winter.

The vertical exhaust does look kind of cool, though.

To each his own.

Please do post that pic. BTW, how much, may I ask did the JodalePerry cab cost?

Comparing apples (green ) to Oranges (orange) my 4520 with standard exhaust is quieter at the operator station than a friends kubota with a vertical stack.

dmp437, did you have to cut the hood? If so, does it have to come off if you open the hood?
Yes, the hood has to be cut. Deere supplys a template so it's in the right place. The exhaust does not come off to open the hood since it exits the side as opposed to coming out the top. With the new vertical pipe you get a new exhaust clamp that has a stabilizer bracket on it that allows it to be bolted to the engine for a more rigid structure. First class, all the way (as usual for Deere, except for the battery thing:mad: )

Thankws dmp437, do tyou have some pics you arre willing to share.

Gee saw the Jodale cabs and they are great looking. I guess if you went with one of those, (Big bucks $4800:eek:) you need to go AC and heat - bigger bucks:eek:. If I get some extra funds:eek:, i might consider one though. They look good.;)

I think you must have misunderstood my last sentence, Nuru. I don't have a vertical exhaust, and I doubt you need a picture of my stock exhaust. :)
