Update on BX diesel leak

   / Update on BX diesel leak #11
If you don't have an immediate need for the modified hitch, and you have a tractor serial number listed in the Service Bulletin, my advice is to wait until you have the Fuel Tank recall work performed, and do both simultaneously. (Better to have the tractor gone only once for a day or two, rather than twice). Just let your dealer know in advance that you are looking to service both items, so that they can have the hitch kit on-hand when the tractor comes in.

Speaking of the recall for the tank, has anyone received the notice yet? I have not.

KEJ - Thanks for taking the time to post all the details of the bulletin. Neither I nor my dealer previously knew about it.

Thanks for the information concerning the 3-point hitch. I spoke to my dealer about this and at first he said he was unaware of a service bulletin. Then he said he could have received some information on it, but doesn't remember. As far as the secondary tank is concerned, he said he has not received the replacement tank yet. He said it was supposed to be delivered to him last week. He said if the leak became unbearable he could bypass the secondary tank until the replacement arrives. It is quickly reaching that point.

FWIW A few days ago I was talking to my dealer about various things and even though I do not have a BX I asked him about the leaking tanks. He said that he has three customers that had a leaking tank. Rather than have them wait until new tanks arrived he provided them with immediate service by applying an epoxy over the weak part of the tank. Said something about between the tank and the frame. I have not seen a BX, so can't picture the situation. Even though the dealer has received replacement tanks, the customers involved are content with the epoxy repair. Perhaps they will get their tanks replaced at the end of the season (which doesn't seem to be too far away). Maybe this could get you your tractor back until the tanks arrive.

Did someone say there is no recall for the fuel leakage? I'm assuming tractors are not covered by NHTSA which controls car, truck bus etc recalls but I would think fuel would be a touchy subject.

Does anybody know if you can just pick up the revised tank?

Doesn't seem like that involved of a procedure.

Ditto with hitch mods, why does tractor have to go in to replace a couple of 3pt links?

Del;
There is a recall (had my new secondary tank installed last week). We are suppose to get a letter from Kubota soon. As I understand it, it is a factory recall as opposed to government imposed recall (no organizational involvement). As for doing the work yourself, check with the dealer. I would be a bit surprised if they agreed, though. Usually for modifications under warranty, manufactures want to insure that the work is to spec. Also, per the Service Bulletin, they seem to want to make sure that the old hitch links are destroyed.

On September 1, my dealer told me that Kubota would be notifying me soon about the leaking tank replacement. After a couple of weeks waiting on Kubota I contacted my dealer again. He said that he did not have the new tanks and that when Kubota contacted me give him a call. It has now been 3 1/2 weeks since I was told to expect a letter from Kubota. In July I had a new tank installed that was swapped off of a new BX. The new tank didn't last as long as the original one. This has begun to become an annoying problem. After smelling up the garage with diesel I finally had to move my BX outside. My dealer has said he could bypass the secondary tank, but I want it fixed right. Has anyone received their notification from Kubota yet?

I haven't received notification but doubt I ever will as my dealer probably didn't send in my paperwork, if the trouble they had handling other stupendously simple tasks is any indication.

Del I do hope your dealer keeps you informed. Kubota said in print mind you that notificaions to you should be in your hands any day. The next part will be to get the parts to the dealers to fix the problem. I anticipate a two to four week delay in the parts to service time.

I think that after waiting so long and not being able to make use of the Tractor, that I would be taking it back to the dealer and demanding another tractor or my money back. Just my 2 cents!!

Got the recall in the mail today. I can ignore it, since the work was already performed. Recall Attached.
