OK, so I read the thread, and I'm enjoying it, but the one thing that I haven't been able to figure out is this. What is a 951?

Basically, a high profile, row crop version of the 8x1 series. Some were wide fronts, some were "tricycle" or narrow fronts. See this thread for a photo of the tractor, sans sheetmetal: ford 951, my next victom - TractorByNet.com

I'm looking forward to seeing the pictures of it when you're done with it. I didn't know Ford had any red tractors, but don't know very much about the older tractors anyway. My knowledge on old iron is what I read on TBN. One day, I'd like to try restoring an old tractor, but it's not a priority, just something that I find interesting.

From 39 to 47 ford tractors were medium grey.. from then to mid 57 they had red cast iron, and light grey sheet metal.. from there to 1962, the ag machines had a mix of red and grey.. industrials had greme and red.. from the thousand series and up.. you saw the blue.. etc.

here's another pic

Restoring tractors is great R&R, not to mention therapy.
Looks like your job jar is pretty full already.

However, there's no time like the present to start restoring old iron.
I took the plunge two years ago and bought a 1964 MF-135 diesel. Been pecking away at that one since then.

This afternoon I'm heading for the EDGE&TA Spring Gas UP in Red Bluff to check out ancient iron and maybe make a deal for another project tractor. It's addictive, that's for sure.

Lost a few hours of tractor work due to having to make emergency fence repairs. Neighbor calle dme on my way home, said someone ran down my boundry fence, and the cow paddock fence over on my property a few miles from my house. I zoomed over there... by the time I got there, sheriff was there.. young kid.. had the shotgun out.. was scared of a 1400# longhorn.. luckilly my neighbors wife penned the cows and they were trying to stand my fence up. We made some haphazard repairs and he had to get his wife to work.. I ran home, grabbed tools and came back and worked a few hours putting my fence back up.. happy ending.

Got home, started chasing threaded holes.. most of them really-REALLY- needed it.

Got the left side hood section and dogleg on.. noticed huge interference with gas tank.

Remember this 951 was originally lpg model and converted to gas with what is probably a 6xx series gas tank, and a contrived bracket.

I had to re-contrive the bracket and lower the tank.. looks like it will work.

Slapped the right hood section and dogleg on, and then poped the nose medalion in.

Man those small fasteners and the captive nuts are hard to work with!.. and boy are there alot of them!

Ran out of light there. Hood center section LOOKS like it will clear the tank. Hinges clear the tank by a half inch on either side... that's good.

Looks like wednesday I will get the center hood section on, and the nose medalion, and then the grill screen and egg-crate.... still got touch up and small items to do after that.
