Has anyone swapped out their hydraulic pump for a higher output hydraulic pump?

After adding my FEL & Power Steering, it appears that I could use a bit more flow.

There doesn't seem to be enough room to add a belt mtd pump. I'm don't want to add a crank pump because I hope to run my MMM from there someday. And, since my MMM is currently spinning off of the rear PTO, I can't use that either.

So, that leaves trying to upgrade the existing pump to a higher capacity pump. According to the parts manual, it looks like the gear drive slides onto the pump with a key'd shaft. If that's the case, I wonder what the odd are, of finding a larger pump, with the same bolt pattern & shaft size?

I figure I'm up the peverbial creek on this, but figured I'd ask anyway.

It would not surprise me to find a pump with a little more capacity that would bolt in the same location. What is the cc's/rev on yours? Often it will be on the tag. By the way, could you have some sort of coincidental problem with your hydraulic screen/filter getting plugged? I know you just did the PS and loader, but check the basics once again just in case. A little water in the hytrans, cold weather and a partially clogged screen will bring things to a standstill. Just a thought.

Very good point on the clogged screen/filter. I was planning on changing the hydraulic/trans fluid after a couple hours. I'll try this first.

I will also take a close look at the pump to see if there is anything english stamped on it.

I was able to get some info off of the pump. Although, I dont' know how much good it will be.

Make: Kansaki Koki Corp
Model: GP1-C-5C
Pressure: 140 (I think it's kg/ something. I couldn't make out the something)
Discharge: 5cc/rev

Now, how on earth does anyone determine how much GPM that 5 cc/rev equates to?

I was able to find a web site for the company I believe is Kansaki. However, they were extremely little help.

At 1800 rpm, you would have 1800 x 5cc, or 9000cc/min, which is 2.4 gallons. At 2500 rpm, it would be 3.2 gpm. It would nice to see 5-7 gpm.

Someone check my math, this seems low.

The conversion I found was:
1cc/min = .000264 gpm

so, 5 cc/min = .00132 gal/min

1800 RPM = 2.38 GPM
2500 RPM = 3.30 GPM

That doesn't look so good. I think I found why my F16 can't handle PS AND a FEL and a 3pt :(

I think here may be a pump with 25% more capacity. I've replaced pumps with the larger pump to gain capacity. Email me if you are interested.

Anything much larger than 25% gain would make a person have to look at the size of the factory suction and pressure lines, filter, screen, etc. Although I think the lines would work up to around 6gpm.

Thank you for the info. I was wondering about the size of the lines, etc. Glad to hear that they should work up to ~6gpm

I think the original is a 5-6 gpm pump. I've installed the larger pump on a YM1510 to run a hydraulic post hole digger. I don't think the lines would be a problem. I have 1/2" lines on my farm hydraulic cylinders & the pumps are a lot higher than 6 gpm.
