Upgrade to 4520?

IMHO, the MX6 is big, and HEAVY! I have an MX5 that I use behind my 3720 and I don't think I would go for the MX6. The LX6, yes... I would even spin a lighter duty 7 footer....

You have a very nice tractor. Enjoy it!

I've got the 3520 and wanted the larger frame machine myself but could not justify the cost for something to goof off on. Since buying it I have decided to do a little farming and have broke up 5 acres with a 2 row breaking plow and also bought a 5' spring tooth sub soiler that I pull at times. The bigger tractor would probably work better but after the field was worked into shape from an old cow pasture the 3520 is great. Small and easy to handle and I can plant my row's closer because of the smaller wheel base. I am suprised at the power this little machine has but when the 4wd is turned on it turns into another animal. I move rolls of hay front and back loaded with it at times with no problem, the only thing it did not like was a pallet of bricks I tried to move and it did not happen, will it did but it was not pretty. I wish it were a little stronger on the forks but other than that I am very happy. I also have a MX5 cutter that works great but I don't think it would handle the 6 just because of the weight.

It's been a while since I last posted and I've created a new account. I currently own a 3720 (300CX, forks, rear remotes, mids) w/ 60 hours and I'm struggling with whether to go larger with the 4520. I have about 120 acres with about 20a in CRP and waterways to mow, 30 acres of timber to deal with, about 2-3a of food plots to plant/manage, and about 1/4 mile gravel drive to maintain. When I bought the 3720 I thought it would be plenty of tractor and I had some clearance issues with overhead openings in buildings that would've required I fold the ROPS on the larger tractor, so I went with the 3720. Originally I started out with an 855 and the attachments that I bought for it (5' BB, 6' rake, 5' cutter, 5' tiller) were probably too big for the 855 and are now probably on the small side for the 3720. I still have the 855. The issue is whether to move up to the 4520 with the larger/heavier frame and get a larger cutter and maybe a bigger BB to work the driveway. The dealer is offering a trade of the 3720 plus 10k for the 4520 (w/equal setup). Moving some large sections of cut timber recently with the forks made me wish I had the larger platform and I suppose I could handle the low door openings by folding the ROPS on the 4520. If I were to be really honest about things I like the looks of the 4520 better and maybe that's what is driving me to think about doing this. Could somebody help me sort through this because I'm starting to go crazy trying to figure this out! Sorry about the length of this post.

I currently own a 4520 cab and a 5525 cab. I had a 4720 open station.
3720 vs. 4520 is a big difference. With the type of work you are doing - consider wheel weights on the 4520. I just added some and it made a HUGE difference.

How big a mower do you have and want to consider. The 4520 does not weigh enough to handle a bat wing mower. If you are going to step up to a bat wing, I would go with a 5xxx series.

MX-6 is heavy and stout. I can be heard on equipment - MX-6 fits the bill.

I'd want to hear from 3x20 owners that have moved up to the 4x20 to know how they felt about it. I hear the 4x20s are loud. Are they louder than the 3x20s? How about the Deere 4 cylinder vs. the 3 cylinder Yanmar? Is it harder to get into tight places?

The 4x20 is a bunch louder - you will want hearing protection for sure.

Size is all relative. I use my 4520 for a lot of things that I don't want to mess with the 5525 and the Power Reverser.

If it is muddy, need more lifting capacity and size - the 5525 comes out of the barn.

Have to agree with Darin on this, you have to pick the tractor for the job. That is why I suggested keeping the 955 for close quarters work and if needed get a larger 4000 or 5000 series to compliment it.

If I stayed with 3720 I'd want to get a wider mower for waterways and areas that don't have thick stuff or small trees (which I'd use a rotary cutter for). I was thinking of maybe a 7' rear discharge mower since these are all relatively flat grassy areas and the step up from a 5' swath to 7' would certainly cut down on the time in the seat. Never had any experience with this type of mower though. Any thoughts?

I think you can be easily lost in all of this:D

For most of us we have to decide on a tractor size and implements to match. It isn't very practical to buy equipment for say a 3720 and then change to a 4720 where the implements could be larger. I asked about the other 70 acres, does this fit into your plans? If not the 3720 should be adequate for your needs.

Have you considered a flail mower? You can get a wider unit since they do not extend so far behind your tractor and weigh less than some of the heavy rotary cutters. That would be a lot cheaper than changing tractors.
