Upgrade to a 4200?

I just had to visit my dealer today, didn't I..........

I am quite happy with my 2210 w/62C mower and 210 loader.
I finish mow about 3 acres, and use the loader for snow removal.
I am expanding my property some, with the need to clean up after logging, and bush hog some. When I take my 2210 out in the woods (which a lot is hillside), I feel quite unstable.
So....my dealer has a very nice 4200 w/60" mower and 420 loader w/ind tires - 250 hours. He is offering me a pretty good deal if I up-size.

Has anyone ran both the 2210 & 4200 to give me a comparison? I feel I need a heavier machine, with larger tires to feel comfortable in the woods, and bush hogging on a hillside.

Any thoughts?

The bigger tires will certainly give you a more comfortable ride in the woods. There are still times when the pucker factor kicks in, regardless of 'size' but I use my 4300 in the woods a lot and the limbs and stumps and rocks will seem much less scary with the 4200.
I'd guess you will like the upgrade when in the woods. You will be more in command of the situation, IMO, with the larger frame.

Well, almost bought it......
The older I get, I seem to try not to "impulse buy", so I've been researching, and stopped at my dealer a couple times (off work for 4 days /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif) - ran it for almost an hour, and did some serous haggling. He said he had someone else in who might probably take it - I've know my dealer most of my life and trust his honesty.
So, looking for an "omen", I said "let's see if he shows up to buy it or not". I figured if he didn't show, that means it was meant to be mine.
I just called to see if the sale went through. No show yet, but...about an hour after I left today, he got a 1 year old 4210 in with a 72" deck - no loader. He said as I was calling, he was working some hard numbers for me. Will have to put a brand new loader on it, and said he thinks he will be able to get close to the price he gave me on the 4200.
Sounds very promising....going out tomorrow morning for a look see.
Now to research the 4210.

Edit: I just went to the Deere configuator, but the 4210 is no longer there of course.
For haggling ammunition, can somone help me out with what the new price of this machine should have been a year ago?

I found myself in a very similar situation about 9 months ago. Had a 2210 and was gearing up to do clean up after logging. I upgraded to a 4320 and am so glad I did. If I tried to make my old 2210 do what I needed to do, I probably would have killed myself (literally).

The safety issue, in my opinion, is something to take very seriously with the 2210. Don't get me wrong (I'm not trying to make 2210 owners mad), the 2210 has it's purpose and it does a fine job at it. But it is easy to push the 2210 too far, and its size, wheel base and weight isn't very forgiving if you do.

So, I guess what I'm saying is if you end up not upgrading to a suitable sized tractor for your cleanup, save yourself a lot of headache and plan to hire it out. Even with my 4320 there were a few cleanup tasks that I planned on doing myself but later decided to have a cat come in and help me. Also, the most useful implement I found for the clean up work was a grapple rake for the loader ... I've got my money out of that implement over a period of a few months.

Thanks for the reply Rayder. Real nice to hear a view from someone with the same situation, and has been on both machines.

Well, as the story goes on, I inquired about a 2520, being that it would be just about the same price as he wants for the 4210. My dealer has never steered me wrong before, and for some reason he is really trying to "steer" me to the 4210 instead of the 2520. He says the 4210 is much more machine, and will be much better for what I want to do with it. Says the 2520 is only a small step up from the 2210 where the 4210 will make me much happier.
Now on to research and compare the 2 machines.

The problem is I still have no guage on the price of the 4210. Anyone help me out with that (see the 4210 specs in one of my posts above)?

I have purchased my 4210 new about 1.3 years ago. It now has 250 hours on it and am very pleased with it. I purchased it with the loader, heavy duty bucket, foldable roll over bar,
mid pto
60" belly mower
e hydro 4x4
I paid 20K for it.

I bought an '01 4210 eHydro, foldable ROPS, 600 hrs, with 420 FEL, rock rake, and box blade, off ebay for $13,800. So far, I've been very pleased with it.

Thanks for the pricing info guys.
My dealer was taken over about a year ago with a new owner, and I am starting to see the change. With that in mind, here is what he is offering..

4210 ehydro (03 model) 680 hours
72" belly mower
New 300X loader

$19800......that is probably what it would have cost new!

And....he keep trying to steer me away from the 2520 - mostly because he can't get them I guess.

So.....that is the end of that for now - will make do with my 2210 for the time being.

In the past, I've always been able to come to a deal that I like.
