Am I crazy to spend $25k to upgrade to the L6060? My L3940 has been very good to me and I'm almost to 1000 hours on it. My annual hours are typically 100 or so. I plant food plots, have a small cattle farm, and clear trails and other things around the house. The 3940 has never let me down, but the additional 20hp in the 6060 would be nice. Plus I assume there is a good increase in hydraulic performance.

By any chance is the L6060 a cab model ? :D .................
If your gettin along just fine with what you got , me I would stay put . You yourself state "The 3940 has never let me down" . Remember you might find yourself wanting to jump up in tractor attachments also . The game does'nt end with just a bigger tractor .
Next time you get "BIGGER TRACTOR FEVER" which is common . Go demo a couple and get it out of your system .
Been there done that . 25K is a big deal to some to others its just chump change .

I’m in that 100 hour per year club for two tractors. Few all day running times. Mostly chores of 30 minutes to three hours a few days a week. I’m afraid the newer pollution control models would be a poor experience.

Assuming you ARE a CPA and rolling in the dough, sure - go for it.

But once you unleash the Money Machine, how far do you go???

(I base my response on the fact of your username and that you didn't mention money being a factor)

Sounds like a bad investment. I think I'll hang onto my 3940. Thanks guys for the input.

I started out with a brand new Ford 1700 4WD in'82. After 27 years I'd completed all the projects I could realistically do with the Ford. In 2009 I upgraded to my current M6040. I went from a tractor weighing some 2750# to the M6040 which weighs 10,010#.

It made a significant difference. The upgrade to Class 2 implements was a substantial expense also.

If you can do all that needs to be done with what you currently have - and it's been very good to you. Stay the course......

I have a L4240 HSTC purchased new considered moving up in size;to gain a lot I would have to go to a M7060;I would loose the HST and have to up grade most of my implements.Similar use 120 hrs./yr.Not worth it to me.
The L3940 is a really nice tractor;have one for sale in the area(low hours),trying to talk my son into it.

I'd almost consider upgrading from my new L4060 to an older 60ish HP 40 series. Basically the same machine minus extra emissions stuff. Haven't had any emissions issues at all & like the lack of black smoke in the barn. But simpler is appealing. I do a lot of mowing & roading, so that extra 20hp would be handy on a lot of my tasks.

Generally I agree though, not worth it for an upgrade path if your machine is still treating you well.
