Upgrading to 455 maybe

*I've had my 455 for a little over a year now. I have added a 3 point hitch and PTO and work it almost as hard as my 4410. The thing sips fuel. If all I did was mow an acre twice a week, I don't know how long a tank a fuel would last. But, I am always dragging a trailer full of mulch or running a roller pump or using the front blade to finish grading where I can't get with my 4410 -- so I have to fill it every 5 or 6 weeks.

When I mow, it is WOT with a 60 inch deck and Power Flow MCS mowing right at an acre -- and I usually cannot see a change in the fuel gauge from start to finish.

Unless the dealer beats you up on the trade, or the 455 has been "rode hard and put away wet", I would jump on it.

*Have you found a tiller for it yet?

Hi Guys

Went to the dealer today and looked at the 455. She is in very clean shape. The only thing missing on it is those orange refectors up by the side of the headlights, other then that, she is in real nice shape. Dealer let me take her for a drive. Boy does that Yanmar have power.. Definately a big difference between it and the Kawi. I find the Yanmar to be quiter as well. I really like the fact that I can start the mower deck at idle or have throttle at half way. Dealer is asking $6,900 for the 455. I was given a trade in price on my 425 at $5,700. I think I am going to bit the bullet and trade. I will keep you posted. Take Care Jason B

I'll second that on the 455. I happened on one at my dealer with just over 200 hours. It was a 98 and looked new. I was there just getting filters and I bought it on the spot. It has the 60 inch deck and is very good on fuel. I'm hanging onto mine.

I"ve kicked myself over and ove again for not doing that with the one that was at my dealers.It only had 511 hours on it and I could of had it for $3500.00 It was nice.

Yes, the 455's are surely sought after. I bet with proper care the 455 can easily run past 20+ years with out any problems. I have heard of 20+ year old 430 Diesels running strong still so a 455 should do the same. Even though my 455 is 12 years old, I imagine I can eaisly get another 12- 15 years out of her. Shouldn't be any problem for it.
I have a 1966 Bolens 850 that just turned 41 this month.
I bought it new in june of 1966.
My 1967 Bolens is 40 years old.

I was considering a 455 before I got my 4100, and as you see I progressed to a 4310. .

I'm not trying to up grade to a JD455.
I'm trying to acquire one to become an assistant to my BX23.

Hi Guys

Well Today, a lucky 455 followed me home. Went and picked her up this morning. Now it just needs to rain so that I can cut grass with her. I am very pleased with the 455 and am glad I traded. I do hope my 425 goes to a good home though. Dealer did have the refelectors for the headlights but is ordering them in. All filters and oil is changed. She is ready to rumble. Thanks for helping me with my decision. I will post pictures of her once she is washed and waxed. I love keeping my tractors in top shape, and I think this 455 deserves it too. Take Care Jason B
