If you want to get the tar and asphalt off the tractor, then wash it with diesel fuel and then hose it down..... It will come out shiny and almost new looking except for the scratches. Just don't plan on doing any painting of the metal for a while. Works perfectly every time......

WD-40 works good too.

Junkman and Cowboydoc...

The asphalt I was referring to was on the tires! Seemed to stick real good and helped hold the mud on better than just plain rubber... /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif

I got ten tons by chance, a left over amount a guy was going to dump down the road. It was hot, but not real hot...pretty hot though. I don't know if really hot asphalt would stick as well to tires. I thought it would fall off when the tires flexed, but not so...at least not all of it. I ended up using a scraper to flic off what the pressure washer did not remove...I should say more of what the water did not blow off...there is still some there...

Not sure if I would want to use diesel on the tires...would that be ok?

Now the bucket..well, I guess that will be protected and wear off in time...makes the tractor look like a working machine... /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif

Hate to burst everyone's bubble of a hope that it's an urban legend, but someone posted a picture on this board of just this sort of thing! I think it was John Miller III, but I could be wrong. I remember how sad of a picture it was, with her back broken like that. /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif

Henro....find that pic, and show it to your wife... /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

How cold does it get up there? Leave that puppy out overnight in sub-zero weather, then whack the tires with a hammer. That asphalt should just fall off. Guys building race cars from production models swear that's the best way to get rid of the undercoat/sound deadening. Since I refuse to go outside any time the temperature falls below 60 degrees F, I suppose I'll never find out...

I saw an L series Kubota with the top link mount broke out of the trans case. This was due to a 3 pt backhoe. The owner did not put know to put the reinforcing bracket onto the trans case. The bracket is "L" shaped and bolts to the top and rear of the case where the top link mounts.
After doing my own research, I have decided if I get anything over the smallest backhoe it will be subframe mounted. For safety and not getting that wiggly feeling from the "loose" 3pt connections.

Charliebrn,

I remember that picture too! But one claim/experience does not make a rule...I don't remember the details that accompanied that picture...I don't even remember the picture! But I do have a memory of seeing the picture...

Mabye that was CWForrester's tractor before he got the one with the bent backhoe? /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif

Sorry...I couldn't resist... /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

I can't help but think if 3PH backhoes were really dangerous to the tractors they hang on that we would be dozens of photos of broken tractors.

Rolling a tractor is a pretty unusual event...and we occasionally see some pictures here of tractors laying on their sides...I would expect to see many more pictures and/or reports of broken tractor/backhoe combos if it were indeed a common thing...

The occurance of a 3-pt backhoe is rare, I know it can happen. Sold a 3 pt hoe to a customer for his Cub Cadet tractor and recommended he go with the sub frame, but he chose not to, about one year later tractor broke in half between the rear end and transmission. Our companies insurance paid for part of the repair. I always advise my customers that the sub frame is the best way to go. The difference in the cost is a small price compared to having to repair a broken tractor.

Henro,
I too have been concerned about your safety with that 3pt. BH. Now, if you are the truly altruistic person that I think you are, I am sure that you wouldn't want to personally profit from any financial gain in disposing of this dangerous piece of equipment. This is where I can help. I will be glad to dispose of this "accident waiting to happen" for you, even though it will be a great expense and inconvenience on my part, due to my location, but it would be worth it to me, just to know that some unsuspecting soul wasn't seriously injured.

OK, so far we've gotten
<ul type="square"> [*]1 broken into [*]a picture of 1 supposedly broken by the BH [*] 1 toplink mount broken off because the owner did something stupid. [/list]

I tend to agree that a subframe is the way to go. It doesn't look like the 3PH design is all that terrible. I'll keep counting and we'll see how many show up.
