US Yanmars

Remember the urban legends about surplus jeeps and Hardlys? Well, one of our members bought a YM187 "new" in a crate this year. He sent a few pictures including this one of the dash. Looks pretty good!
Since tractors are generally aged from the year that they are put into service, I'm thinking that this one is a legitimate 2002 YM187. What do you think?

I'd say it is entirely possible. The dealer I bought from had 19 Yanmars in crates when I bought mine. Actually, it was more of a pallet with a open sided crate built on so they could stack them in containers for shipping.
Knowing how Yanmar operated with "dealers" back in the early 80s, it is possible a "dealer" had a tractor left when he took on another brand, and just left the Yanmar sitting in the warehouse.

That is so cool that it doesn't matter if it's true or not. I love my 186D but it would be great to start over with a brand new one with everything perfect. I'm not even sure if I would change anything it does the job so well. Sure makes you wonder. What's in the back of someones warehouse. There is gold out there somewhere.

Greetings,
The potential 2002 YM187 is real. I picked it up
this spring and took it to its first day of work
today. I will attempt to post a picture but
if I fail I will forward it to Roger for attaching.

If the pic comes through note the slick aftermarket
weight box in front.

I used a middle buster today to break sod on a 50
year old pasture in prep for planting spuds. This was
both mine and the tractor's first time. What a trip, just
like being a kid in the sandbox again.

Dave, you have to tell us the background on when, where, how you found this 186D. The rest of us US Yanmar owners and especially the 186D folks like myself would be very interested.

I must admit though, I would be too much of a wimp to actually use a "new" mint 186D...you know you could get that thing dirty, don't you?!!

My 186D has a black frame as well. That is the color they should be. Do the new gray market Yannies have another color on the frame?

Very nice machine he has.... but he needs to get one to use, so that he can keep that one nice.

I wonder if there are any more out there like that? What was this one? A lost crate packed in the back of some closed warehouse?
