USA =\"Underground Service Alert\"

A little item you might want to pick up for the old tractor. I have a USA sticker applied to the underside of my Sun Shade on my Tractor . All I need to do is look up to see the Phone number in case I am digging anywhere near underground utilities. It just might save you a expensive repair or your Life someday . It has a 1-800 phone number to call and it cost nothing to use there service . Call USA to get one . I hit a high pressure Gas Line one time on a construction site . Because the gas company had mismarked the location was the only reason I did not get a big repair bill .

The utility people will come out and spray paint and/or put those little flags over the area where they find your power, cable, phone, etc. I follow them up by taking pictures for future reference.

In the seven years I have had my present place, I have installed a lot of drainage, power, water, etc. I take lots of photos and measurements then put them in an album along with descriptions. That info will get passed onto the next "caretaker" that comes along.

I was putting in a new waterline and hit the mainline from the power company off of the pole. I had JULIE out and they had mismarked the original lines. Luckily for me because it put power out for four miles. They had four trucks out to repair it all.

QRTRHRS ( I follow them up by taking pictures for future reference. ) Pictures really are worth a thousand words. The next tenant should be grateful. Another reason to take pics is a friend of mine ran a construction company ( dozers etc. ) He made the call and all lines were flagged or painted. He was not able to leave all the markings undisturbed and did cut a cable and pulled several feet of it out of the ground. This was at the end of the day and he reported it immediately. The cable that he cut had not been marked and he had started out with photos of markings before digging began. The next morning when he arrived back at job, the locator man had moved flags to indicate that this line had been marked. Turns out that this was an obsolete line. Had it not been, pictures definatly would have paid off.
