Some have reverted to using horses, which has proven to be more profitable. Time will tell.

The price of a gallon of milk has gone up twice as much in the last 12 months as the price of a gallon of gas. How come knowbody ever complains of that??

Cause MT Dew is still cheap ? I just wonder how much of the price increase is trickling down to the dairy farmers. If their income has increased by the same ratio, I am not complaining.

I don't think that the fuel price increase will effect the purchase of compact tractors much if any. Most of the under 40 hp tractors are not sold to farmers anyway. Usually used for property maintenance and improvment.

Sorry, I didnt mean to derail this gentlemans thread by any means.
China, whose economy is booming, has boosted its demand for soybeans, a key ingredient in feed. Just as China's appetite for imported steel has pushed prices up for the building material, it has had the same effect on feed grain in the United States.
Nationwide, the number of dairy farms has dropped 17.8% between 2000 and 2003. Other farmers have stayed in the business but have reduced the size of their herds.

I don't know about the farmers but I am wondering about all the people driving large SUV's. Most get less than 20 MPG's. If we could get them all into more efficient hybrid or hydrogen vehicles we could thumb our nose at the Arabs!!!
