I have the opportunity to buy the subject tractor for about $3500. Has 900 hours, in good physical condition, needs tires. Will be my first tractor - any warnings, cautions or other advice? Does the price sound reasonable? How fast will it run in forward? How high can it cut?

A B6100 in good condition for $3500 sounds good to me.

Does it come with a Mower? I didn't have a Mower on mine, so I can't answer your question on how high it can cut.

I can tell you that the B6100 is an amazing little machine.

I traded in a 1983 B6100E with 600 hrs for $1850 a year ago. The dealer was asking $2500 but sold it recently for Around $2000. You said it was 4wd i.e. a B6100DT. Is it gear or hydrostatic? I can't remember if the hydrostat was offer in that model. I assume you are in OK by your "handle" if so the price seems high although that is a strong little tractor. I used a Land Pride 4" rear finish mower on mine which if I remember correctly would finish cut in the 1.5-5" range as long as the grass was not over about 12" high. If you use a rotary cutter you should be able to cut grass up to about 18" if you go slow or take less than a full width cut.

I paid around $2200 last year for a B6100dt with a 4' Woods belly mower. No problems until recently when the charging system quit working. I use mine mainly for snow plowing and landscaping chores. I took the mower deck and front pto off. The deck had a bearing going bad and I never got around to fixing it.

What are your planned uses for it? They're a small but hard working tractor. I wouldn't try to plow the lower 40 with it though. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

thanks for the info - I have decided to pass on the kubota 6100 and look for something in the John Deere 850 size. I am in no hurry and plan to use this forum to "get educated"!

I had a great 1983 B7100D with a FEL and 48" RM mower (not finish), 4 wheel chains and 400# counter weight with 1467 easy hours on it and never saw a repair except for 1 battery replacement. I sold it for $5,500 and after I did 2 other people came to buy it and offered more in both cases. I still miss it even though I have a great B26. I guess when it is the first toy one has, you will always have a soft spot for it.:)
