Used 6\' cutter or new?

Hello everyone, well I finally got my tractor and I am needing a rear cutter(bushog) to take care of some fields. I have searched around and have found a couple of used 6' and of course a bunch of new. The used are an international, and mono brands, they look fairly old (rusty), but the gear box and blades seem to be fine( decent cond.). Anyways, They are pull behind type. They are half the price ($450) of a new one(King cutter) here in my neck of the woods. A guy who sells older tractors and fixes them up is selling them. I guess my question is would anyone be afraid of a older used cutter or are they more trouble than they are worth? I don't know a lot about these things so any info would help. Oh yea, they don't have a "slip clutch" either, which is good or bad??? Thanks, Griz.

Yow!... Pricing is relative I guess... /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

If ya have the time... shop around some more... even if it means extending your shopping range many miles out...

A 5' International rotary cutter NEW @ local auctions here pull $450-500., and 6' about $100. more NEW! /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif

Re: Used 6\' cutter or new?

Last year I bought a used tw-72 Rhino cutter with slip clutch for just over $400. it had some pitting in the deck from not being painted and kept outside. Overall I got a very good deal on that mower considering it sells for better than $1500. new. /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif

I've also got a 5' international cutter and bought it used with a shear bolt no slip clutch for $100.00. I've used the heck out of that cutter as well over the past few years and the only problem I've had thus far is getting sticker vines wrapped up around the pto shaft and took out the gear box seal. MY FAULT. /forums/images/graemlins/mad.gif

But $450. is pretty steep to pay for a international cutter that is used. Actually it's very steep. Well really without beating around the bush,,, I would not even consider buying it unless it was a dire emergency. /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

Do some more shopping. It will more than pay off in the long run.

Goodluck

WOW! Now THATS the kind of deal I am looking for! I have just started looking, but it seems in my area, used ones seem to go for the $350-$500 range.

Re: Used 6\' cutter or new?

Rotary cutters like anything else are always out there for next to nothing when you really don't need one. But when your looking for just one cutter you can't find a thing.

Above is a picture of the Rhino cutter. Total cost was $440.00 asking price was $500.

Not as heavy duty as that monster you have John but it gets the job done.

Example of auction sleepers…

Hi Griz,

Here’s a 5’ Servis-Rhino Gyro rotary cutter, I picked up in the past two months or so at an auction… It’s a HD tow behind unit… that is rated for up to 4 ½” stuff… and runs like a champ…

It’s circa mid to late ‘60’s with a couple hairline cracks in the gearbox/deck area… but for $45… I’ve got room to fix her up right…/forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif
