Used BX 23 delivered today, question about hydro

I recieved my used 2004 BX23 with 82 hours on it yesterday. I tried it out some today and noticed It would not go up an incline near the house. I was in snow about 6", front diff locked, transmission speed in high. The wheels where not spinning and it just refused to move. I did not dwell on it and backed down and tried it again...Same thing.
I then backed down and shifted the hydrostatic transmission to low and proceeded up the hill whithout any trouble. Is this typical with the BX23? /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif I think I'll be happy with it, the other thing I notied is the 4 way flasher switch does not work, it seems to be stuck and does not toggle. I didn't remove the switch yet to see if I can fix it or need new. I also noticed a light bulb hanging down from the dash area. As for safety items the tractor motor still runs when I get up from the seat without engaging the parking brake. I kind of like the idea, but am accident prone. I looked under the seat and the plugs appear to be together, Any ideas on where else to check to correct this safety feature?
Thank you very much guys, I love this site and think I'll feel the same way after I use the tractor. Kind of wish I was home at delivery as I could have used a lesson on implement removal, ie loader, hoe, mower.

As for the climbing question I would say it sounds perfectly normal. As for the safety switch stuff I know someone will be able to give you the info.

High range is not intended for your power (ie. hills or digging etc.) so it is normal. Think of it as trying run your standard shift vehicle up a hill in a high gear, unles you have speed up it won't make it.

In low it will be a beast.

Greetings, the BX23 is a great little machine.

I've got several fairly steep inclines around my back 40 and w/the BH & FEL mounted, I also had to shift into low range inorder to climb these steeper grades. Since I have to mow them I tried conquering them sans the BH and I was able to traverse them in high. I imagine I'll probably still use low range when mowing just to maintain better control, at least in the beginning anywho.

I only have about 21hrs on my BX23 so due to break in I'm climbing at less than WOT & trying not to lug it just yet. At 84 hrs you should be able to go at it WOT or there abouts.

The flasher switch may have some dirt or grit or some other obstruction jamming the rocker down, it may be possible to pop it out and attempt to clean it out, if not you can order or pick up another at your local dealer or from tractorsmart.com

The bulb thats hanging down is either from one of the 2 gauges or one of the easy-checker idiot lamps. The gauges
lite up w/the head lites on. (don't be concerned that both gauges have diferent color lights, they come std this way).

The idiot lites, starting left to right are,
1-L turn sig & flasher (on w/turn sig switch)

2-glow plugs (on w/ign key in preheat position)

3-charging system (on w/key on & idicates a touble when on w/engine running)

4-oil press (on w/key & indicates a trouble when on w/engine running)

5-R turn sig & flasher (on w/turn sig switch)

As for safety switches my BX23 tractor will start & run w/o any weight on the seat as long as the shifter is in neutral. It won't start in gear without a presence in the seat.
It will die if I lift up off the seat w/the pto engaged.

I see you may be new to the forum so you may not be aware that an HST tractor works opposite of what you may be used to. The more pressure you apply to the pedal the less power you will have. I had the same problem.

Instinctively, when going up a hill I would press harder on the pedal just like I would in a car. I finally learned from the friendly folks on this forum to apply less pressure if the tractor was having a hard time pulling up a hill.

I don't understand the technical stuff about why it works that way, but it just does. Now, if I hear the enginge start to slow down I back off the HST pedal and it keeps right on going, slower, but it goes.

The HST pedal is like a gear shifter. The more you press it, the higher the gear.

That's normal. As long as the PTO isn't engaged or the HST pedal is pressed past a certain point, it will continue running. You need this ability so that you can remove the BH.

Thanks Ya'll, I knew I ould count on the right answers here. Still no pictures yet, I've been working 7 tens for the past 2 weeks, up all night, sleep all day. Ordered some maintence items from the kubota store and dreamed allot. But can't wait to see the critters full potential. When I bought my bx2200 used the poor thing had been left outside most of it's life. /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif My turn signals and four ways were messed up and all I had to do is pop out the switches, carefully open them up and clean them. No problems since then and now my Kubota has a happy home indoors! /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif
