Hey Tom... hows your BX holding up? Isn't about time for another performance review?

Hey Dude,

Sorry 'bout your row with the county. She's runnin' well. FEL hydro quick-couplers failed. Had a bear of a time torquing the old ones off. One of the brass lines coming outt'a the chassis snapped with only a touch of being bent. Otherwise, she's chuggin' away.

The CFO got to trade her 95 Grand Voyager for an 06 Sienna. Now if I can just convince her of the advantages of tradin' a BX2200 for a BX24 (wishful dreamin)!!

I have seen BX23's with less then 300 hours go or $12500 on eBay. workingallthetime just traded his BX23 in on a new B3030 w/BH75. He posted what he got in on trade.

I'd go with the BX24 for the extra $. I looked for a good not-too-used tractor for a long time but the nominal savings just didn't seem worth it so I bought a new B7800

HUH!?, just checked my records, a touch over 400 hrs in the 1st year. Service done in my shop, by me, lots of extra time to run a household by myself.

Homebrew, I have no question whether or not your service was performed correctly and on time, I just get suspicious when buying used equipment. Just the same as buying a used car, don't know if that was 30,000 miles of stop and go or highway miles. Just sounds like that unit was worked pretty hard in one year.

On that we agree :) For some reason, if I buy used, I like a machine that has been worked AND is still under mfg warranty. have bought cars that way too. Just a personal prejudice I guess ... a machine that has very low hours and looks fresh off the floor, after a year, worries me more than a machine that, in my view, has much LESS than minimal use ~5 hrs a week. :)

A machine that has ridiculously low hours and is barely used would also worry me. Just as much damage from sitting around as being overworked, maybe? A worked machine that is not abused would be more attactive that an unused machine in glossy showroom paint. A used macine just makes you think that it can do the work you want it to.

I had to make the same choice last year. I bought a new BX24 with warranty, and got a good financing rate. I don't regret the choice. I would buy new.

Just to be the devil's advocate here.....

BX23 for $13,900 OBO = maybe $13K?

New BX24 for $16K + 8.25% sales tax = $17,320

$4320 difference or 33% more for the new BX24. That's a serious
difference AND what if the BX is not enough tractor for you? You
can sell the used one for about what you paid. You will lose
thousands on the new one when you trade up or sell.

You're right about the sales tax. I hadn't figured that in first time.
On the BX23, the original price was $14,500, but he lowered it to $13,900 and then sold it pretty quickly. I still wasn't sure about that many hours in a short time.

In any case, I'll keep lookin'

... sales tax. ...

There is a substantial reduction in sales tax when the equipment is used for "farming" ;)
