I mow about 4 acres for a church with a 22HP ZTR of mostly clear land but with 30 small bunches of trees to go around. It does cruise pretty well and is fun to drive, but it's more fun to get off of. Hands have to stay on the controls most of the time and is fairly rough riding.
I had a 455 w/60" deck for years and now I have a X740 and I mow about 2 acres around the house with many young trees and many larger to go around. The 455 is nicer riding than the larger ZTR I use. I always enjoy getting done with the ZTR and getting on the 455 or 740. It is more pleasurable driving and riding. If it was strictly for speed, possibly a ZTR would work. But for versatility and looking cool, go with the 455. The ZTR isn't good for anything else other than mowing as far as I know. Also with a 60" deck and a short turning radius you can drive right around a 12" tree with almost no trimming involved. It's close enough where unless a guy is a fanatic, you shouldn't have to trim.
