Used Deere 455

I mow about 4 acres for a church with a 22HP ZTR of mostly clear land but with 30 small bunches of trees to go around. It does cruise pretty well and is fun to drive, but it's more fun to get off of. Hands have to stay on the controls most of the time and is fairly rough riding.
I had a 455 w/60" deck for years and now I have a X740 and I mow about 2 acres around the house with many young trees and many larger to go around. The 455 is nicer riding than the larger ZTR I use. I always enjoy getting done with the ZTR and getting on the 455 or 740. It is more pleasurable driving and riding. If it was strictly for speed, possibly a ZTR would work. But for versatility and looking cool, go with the 455. The ZTR isn't good for anything else other than mowing as far as I know. Also with a 60" deck and a short turning radius you can drive right around a 12" tree with almost no trimming involved. It's close enough where unless a guy is a fanatic, you shouldn't have to trim.

I love my 455 and I mow about 5 acres with it. I bought mine used with 750 hours on it and it has been great. If you live in snow country, you can put the 47 blower on it. You would be amazed at the amount of snow it will move.

It is one tractor that I will never sell and good ones are hard to find.

I just picked up a 455 aws, 60" deck with 1110 hours on it for 3800. It's in great shape but I can't locate the serial number for it. Everyone I know that has one of these tractors just loves them..

The serial number should be located on a sticker on the frame just in front of the foot rest on the right foot side.

The 455 is a great Garden Tractor, I bought a 1995 Deere 455 AWS with 60" deck back in 2007, it only had 823hrs when I bought it, it now has only 1,205 hrs on it with lots of life left. I got the hydrolic Dump MCS for my 455 for picking up leafs in the fall and is very manuervable. I also have a 2007 Deere X744 AWS, and I just bought a Deere 2305 with a 2 stage blower back in Dec, so I am at crossroads between selling my Deere 455 AWS or my Deere F1145 Front mower, I hardly ever use the Front mower now besides ditch banks, but maybe I will put a sikkle mower on the back of the 2305 and sell off the F1145 instead.

A low hr 455 Deere will last you for years to come, they are very very well built. Local Deere Dealer had a 455 come in on trade last yr that had 4,500 orginal hrs! Cosmentically it was in rough shape but the engine had been well maintaned and sounded nice.... I almost bought it, but it sold before I had the chance to.... Local Dealer had a 455 Deere come in for service a few yrs back that had 7,200 orginal hrs!!! The engine had never been touched, the transmission and mower deck had been rebuilt twice but they never touched the engine... Those Yanmars are a well build Diesel engine. If you found a "well taken care of" 455 Deere with 2,500 hrs and the owner has all the service records and nothing seems wrong with it, I would buy it if the price is right... obviously if you get a low hr 455 for a great price I would go that route.
