Garick,

I have a JD4100 (essentially last years 4110) and my neighbor has a JD955.

The biggest difference between the two is that the 955 has more horsepower. If you're planning on using a backhoe, the 955 is the way to go. Other than that, my 4100 is generally considered to have 'better' hydraulics than the x55 series - and I can see the difference in the way my FEL works - it's smoother and faster. The 41xx is lighter than the 955 - potentially meaningful if you're using it to mow your lawn. The 955 has a 'real' glow plug circuit - my 4100 glow plugs only energize for 3 seconds, whereas the glow plugs on the 955 are controlled by the block temperature; they can be energized for up to 30 seconds. That might be real meaningful in Canada - I wish I had that feature down here in New Hampshire ! (You might want to check - That might be one of the changes Deere made between the 4100 & 4110. The Major change between the 4100 and 4110 is the 4110 is 22hp instead of 20hp, and the brake pedal arrangement is slightly different - definitely an improvement.) I use my neighbor's tractor whenever I need a backhoe, and it's a good tractor. Mine is a little smaller, therefore easier to get into tight places. I think that new implements are probably less expensive for the 4110 than the 955, although I'm not sure what is available new for the 955. One Feature I have on the FEL is a quick-attach Bucket - I have a set of pallet forks (JD) that go on the FEL frame instead of the bucket. I don't think the 955 has that same setup - you should check to make sure.

In short, the 955 is a larger tractor, with a little more capability. However, except for occasionally using a backhoe, I don't need the greater capacity - and I benefit from the smaller size, better hydraulics, etc. It mostly comes down to what you're gonna do with it and how you go about doing it.

I have the 855. I found out that you can mount a 420 loader to the 855 and 955. JD makes a kit which makes the 420 FEL fit these units
