I know I am late to the party, but I would make the suggestion of having a oil sample analized. It will tell you exactly what shape the motor is in.
If the oil was freshly changed it may not tell you much. Besides, by the time you wait for the analysis results you could end up like the OP, someone else will come along, recognize a good deal and buy it while you're still waiting on the mechanic to come over or oil analysis results to come back.I know I am late to the party, but I would make the suggestion of having a oil sample analized.
