Used Land Pride GS1572 questions

I have the GS1548 and I've hade it for about 3 years now. I use it with an old Massey Ferguson 180 (60HP). I use cat 2 to cat 1 adapters. The unit is built like a tank. I have never had a fear of breaking the unit. This unit is the best thing for maintaining gravel driveways. When I am doing maintenance I have the front blade set about a half an inch or less below the skids and the back set even with the skids. A 30 HP tractor should not have an issue with that. If your are trying to rebuild the crown it will probably take a few passes. My driveway is 12 feet wide so it takes one pass down and back on the outer edges and then another down an back with the left side of the unit on the center line of the driveway. My plans were to get a tractor in the 30HP range but now that I am baling hay I guess I would like to stay in the 50 to 60HP range. I can't say enough about the ease of mainting my driveway with this unit. It is great. It brings the gravel to the surface so it can bind with the fines and make a solid surface. It works best when the gravel is dry. It flows more evenly over the blades and leaves a more level surface. If the gravel is wet is can get a little globby when it flows over the second blade.
I used to use a rear blade for driveway maintenance. Had to wait for some rain to get the gravel wet for a good mixing action when blading. Working the gravel side to side in windrows and then smoothing it out again. This unit makes it so much easier. What a time saver and I think it does a better job since more gravel makes it to the surface to make tighter and more solid pack.

I have the GS1572 and love it. Can't say for sure how your two tractors would handle it but it seems very well matched with my Kubota L3240.

I don't think the varying road width will be a problem. Mine is about 9-12 feet wide in different areas and it still seems to work just fine. You might have to make a couple more passes at the wider spots. For the narrow spots you could also just tilt it using the 3pt hitch.

I am picking either the GS15 60 or 72 today. I would like to get the 72 but was told my Kubota 3130 might not be enough HP when using the scarifier. I think the 3130 is the same as the 3240. Have you had any power problems when using the 72. Have you tried pulling up the ground yet with the scarifiers? Anyone else use this on a 3130?

For standard maintenance I never use the scarifiers. They are nice to have if I need to dig a little deeper to get to the bottom of a rut or pot holes. 30HP might be a little lite with the 6 foot model if digging a little deep and getting a good amount of material built up between the blades but it could probably do fine with standard surface maintenance. For standard surface maintenance I shorten the top link so the rear blade sits about 1/2 inch or so off the ground. The front blade then skims off a 1/2 inch or so of the surface material and causes it to flow over the front blade. I get a little build up of material between the blades where it mixes and then flows under the rear blade which levels it off. This method has worked very well for me. Maintenace of my 1/2 mile driveway is a breeze with this unit. One of my best implememnt purchases.
