Sure is nice seeing someone asking about aquiring a used machine every once in a while. I'm glad to know that I am not the only one looking for deals!
Anyway, regarding your questions, there are several tractors that may fit your/their needs as long as your neighbors are the "fixer upper" types. In other words able to do some of the maintenance.
The tractors that I have done the most research on are the older jd models. Here is a good site for them. Link
As for the bucket for one of these, the Jonny Bucket is the best/only one that I have found that is a new product.
The JD 140 model is an very sought after tractor due to it's rugged nature and is a very heavy duty model that has the ability to accept 3ph and some even come with hydraulics on the front and rear. Check the first link and look at the models info for more details.
I currently have a JD165 that I picked up for 100 bucks and use regularly pulling heavy cart loads and other chores. I would like to get a lift for my tractor, but it wouldn't half as heavy duty as the one for the 140 series.
