Used mower Price Check

I was looking at some used LandPride FDR2527 mowers today. Dealer had 2 of them in the lot. I figured that since the mowing season was over here in the north I could get a decent price. Problem is I do not know what a decent price is.

I can't comment to much on condition because I don't know what too look for. The had some surface rust on 10%-15% of the exterior surface but looked solid.

What should I look for?

Any way to give a estimated "good price" based on this information?

Leaking seals, condition of the blades and stump jumper,bearings in the tailwheel and bearing noises coming from the gearbox. Also check to see if it has oil or grease in the gearbox.

varies widly on area and dealer.

My dealer wanted to sell me a 50% rusty craptastic 5' hog for $450

I found a 5' with ~25% rust, slip clutch decent condtion for $250 from craigslist private seller.

My problem is used ones i found usually sold for about $50 less than a brand new KK...= not worth it to me.

You're looking at a 72" or 84" finishing mower that probably sold for $2000-$2500 new (that's a WAG).
As an example, I saw a LP 72" RFM on craigslist during the summer for $1400. It was 2 or 3 years old and I'd like to have bought it, but didn't have the cash on me. Anyway, my 60" Befco cuts quite nicely so I couldn't justify the dollars.

If it's in real good condition, I estimate $1500 should get it home. Obviously, offer less...but if it's a newer unit (year or two old), $1500 is reasonable (especially if it's an 84" mower).
If you can get the dealer to rig it to a tractor (so you can hear it run), I do that. Shouldn't be a problem since many dealers have a yard jockey.
If the dealer cannot do this, make sure you get a return clause on the bill of sale.
