Used Preifert Cattle Chute

There is an auction this weekend and I was wondering if any cattlemen wouldn't mind giving their :2cents: on this question.

What should I bid on a 8+ year old Preifert Squeeze Chute? Paint is faded. Headgate operates fairly smoothly. It is a foot pedal operated squeeze rather than an overhead pull handle. It also comes with the trailer. And the palpation cage will be sold as a separate auction item during the sale.

Thoughts?

I never have used a foot operated and I know they come in several models which will effect the price, but what to recommend as a "fair " deal is almost impossible. What do they go for new/used in your area? Here they start at around 2k up. The trailer, that also depends on its condition, ect tra.
If I could get it for $800, I'd probably be happy, but hard to say at an auction. $1200 may be a fair price there, I see used ones here on occasion and they want near new price?

I can get a NEW Tarter Cattlemaster with Palpation Cage and Trailer for $3,500. Heavy weight (1,300# chute and 200# palpation cage), dual sided squeeze, right side door opening to sort, squeeze operated by lever instead of pedal, etc. So I am with you on the $800-$1,000. I am very hesitant to go anywhere north of $1,200 on a used piece of equipment regardless of age.

Yeah, I would sure look over the welds, especially near the ground, manures has a way of turning steel to nothing. I'd shoot for under 1k and let the suckers have it after that:laughing:

Well Western, the auction was today and the 7+ year old Preifert Chute went for $2,000 and the matching Palpation Cage went for $400. WOW! I can still get the Tarter Chute with Trailer with Cage for $3,400...NEW! Believe that is the way I am turning.

Squeeze Chute

Heres an older Power River I just saw on CL here locally. I like to buy new also when possible, but at times theres no doubt theres deals to be had . Not that I think this one is a deal .
