Speaking of backing up,

I'm sure someone has already thought of this. Rear view mirror on their PT. I have one ordered to put in my cab. Stories on here of smoking engines or loosing hydraulic oil, and not noticing it while working prompted me to do this. Also good for seeing anyone in back of me when backing up. Anyone else done this? does it help.

I, too thought I'd give that a try. Soooo, I pinched a very good quality convex mirror from the good Ms Tracdoc's racecar (she actually wanted a bigger one), and I installed it on the right ROPS pipe. It is fantastic when the PT is stationary and OFF. Once the engine is running and you're moving, it is very jiggly and blurred. I had hoped I could use it to follow a neat line going backwards. Not with this mirror! Maybe there are better units out there, like shock/vibration protected. I'd still like to have a mirror. If anyone has a suggestion for a suitable unit, please post it.

I installed a mirror underneath the roof of the ROPS/FOPS, and it doesn't work very well either. I used one of those cheap 'strap-on" convex towing mirrors, and being rubber mounted, it doesn't vibrate too bad...

What I've found that renders it ineffective is that when you need it most, it doesn't work -- the rear of the machine is pointing in a different direction than that shown by the mirror fastened to the front because the machine is articulated... you really need to track where the back wheels are going, yet the mirror is fixed in relation to the front wheels....

Kinda hard to communicate...

I've got a little mirror under my ROPS/FOPS. It's easier to turn around to check something but I use it when driving down the road and pulling the sleigh with the kids in it.

Speaking of the wife, that is the main reason I'm getting one. I've told her at least 4 times now, let me know when you are in back of me. I still find her bending over behind the machine doing yard work and trusting that I know she is there. /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif

Vibration, Hmmmmm I thought that might be a problem. I just ordered a clip over so I could mount it on a solid block of some sort. I was anticipating vibration, and thought one with a stem mount might contribute to more vibration.

I will be mounting mine to the glass, I also plan to attach it to a brace off of the ROPS. Hopefully that will steady it somewhat.

Didn't think about the articulation when backing up. Well having one is better than nothing I guess.

</font><font color="blue" class="small">( That's pretty innovative /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif I like it! That’s simple but effective. I would like to echo your thoughts though, be very careful not to strip the nut, and if engine is running make sure the brake is on.

Someone on here can't remember who now, also gave me another simple, but great tip ! that I've been using. Just use your toe on the underside of the right treadle peddle to back up. Since I have been doing this I have not needed to call Terry and order the springs. Works like a charm I might add. Can back up with out being concerned of jumping the PT into something.

I have the springs and they work nicely.
