Sorry, I just thought you had one, they cost so much (IMHO)because they are well worth it - and don't forget your toothbar!

They are so expensive because they are made in Japan and sold in the US. It cost a lot to ship from there to here, plus add in the profit of all the in-between people from the foundry to the final user and it can get expensive. I believe that the weights are 55 pounds, so shipping to the local dealer from the warehouse itself is expensive. If you don't have to have Kubota weights, then I would just look for some locally and modify your bracket to accommodate them. If it will make you feel better, paint them either Kubota orange or grey.. just don't use New Holland Blue on them if you want them to work properly... /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Oh, right! Shipping the weights may get pricey because they're kinda heavy. Doh!

Irregardless whether shipping is expensive or not , there are uses where You have to have them, then price does not become an issue if You want to accomplish certain tasks.

I for one am going to have to have them come next Spring if the Plan comes together , If I haven't found any second-hand ones by then I will pay the price. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Correct, the weights are 55 lbs. ea.. Reason I originally bought the weight kit was that I got tired of hitting and manuvering around my fence posts and trees while tilling with the FEL on. If you have a specific need, they are priceless.

Oh, there's no doubt I need them. I need to run a 450 lb. rotary cutter behind a BX2230 and right now the tractor tends to do wheelies with all that weight in the back, even on relatively flat terrain. I just wondered why a stack of inert metal should costs hundreds of dollars.

Because there is little deamnad, but when you need them they are as stated above priceless . /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Or

if you want to get away on the cheap, then have two steel plates made with a hole drilled in the front half and bolt each one of the plates to the side frame of the tractor. Then put bar bell weights on a pipe and put the pipe through the two holes and pin it in place. If you don't care what it looks like, then you can improvise for a lot less money. Use schedule 80 pipe so it doesn't bend under the weight of the weights. If you use a 1" schedule 80 pipe, check to see what next undersized will fit into that pipe and put one of those inside the 1" pipe and it will be extremely strong, so bending will not be a problem.

The only onther suggestion I have for JunkMans plan is to also have some sort of holding device if your weight pack is removable. A simple nut and bolt through the pipe would work just fine.
