'01 TC29D FEL MMM
I'm going to look at and likely purchase a 2001 TC29D with 7308 Loader, 60" mmm, and 180 hrs for $12,200.

I'll give it a good once over (as much as I can). Is there any know/common problems that I should look for? I did see the posts on oil cooler hoses.

I am building on 5 acres in SE Mich. I will be doing the landscaping, lawn prep, and later brush hogging and mowing. It was probably one size larger than I was looking for, but the price is right. I wanted to stay in the 1700lb class, and this is about 700lbs more. I hope I won't regret it.

Also, thanks to all the folks who spend the time to read and answer posts, and provide great lessons learned. It's probably the first time a forum like this seems to be working... maybe this internet thing will work. /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

I bought a used TC-35D several months ago. I found the battery had leaked acid on the platform it mounts on. I found this before I made the purchase and used it as a negociating tool on the tractor price. Mine was still under warranty, so it wasn't a big issue. I believe this can cause problems if the acid eats away on the lower radiator area.

Do a search on "battery spew" and "battery gassing".

That tractor new around here runs right around $19,500. That is roughly what I purchase mine for. I do have the 72" MMM and I do have Super-Steer. You price seems pretty good if you have all of the above? The 180 hours is a drop in the bucket for that tractor. As far as the tractor being too heavy. It will be great for doing all of your landscaping work. Finish mowing will work but you will have to be careful. Only mow on dry conditions. I have the TC29D and I mow 2 acres with it. It is on the heavy side but I get along just great.

Yes check the battery. Mine had problems and was fixed free.

Welcome to tbn.

I gave 15K for my smaller 2002 TC18, 60"MMM and 7106 Loader (new). I'd say you're getting a great deal.

Depending on the sale date, the tractor may be totally out of warranty, NH has 2 years bumper to bumper and 3 years powertrain.

The known problem areas have been covered. Look at the overall condition of the machine - clean etc. See if records were kept of maintanence. It should have been serviced at 50, 100 and 150 hours. The owener's manual gives the specifics.

Check the fluids for condition & proper fill level (the engine oil will likely be very black - normal for a diesel, but the hydro oil will be amber in color).

The engine should start w/o much fuss. A bit of smoke at cold startup is normal, but should end in a few seconds.

Have the owner/salesperson show you all the levers and cycle everything thru it's paces - FEL, tranny, PTO(s), Three point etc.

If you are new to tractors and/or diesels, you may want to consider having a qualified mechanic look it over for you for a nominal fee... Cheap insurance. You didn't mention if this was a dealer or private sale.

Good luck & welcome to tbn.

Brougth it home. Here are a couple of pics.

It does need a battery box (or gel cell) update. Besides that, it looks just barely broken in.

Bring on the work!

Congratulations.

Now - be sure to remove that MMM before plowing snow, or we'll have to report you for tractor abuse /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif

Enjoy, be safe, and keep the pictures coming.

Hey she looks great but what's that white stuff in the bucket? You should have the seller remove that - could get in the way as you grade for your palm trees & cactus garden. Enjoy her - Buckee
