LOL, well, I almost posted the addy to the extensive photo gallery of my land that I have put up on the web for extended family (and because I'm a net geek and *can* /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif ) but I spared y'all.

But I did fill in the profile somewhat. As I said in my original post, I have 40 acres, mostly trees. The cleared areas need to be mowed or they will be tree too /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

I have a 1/2 acre pond that has a lot of trees that the dummies who made it didn't clear out before it filled in. I'm hoping to use a tractor and chain to pull them out.

I have fallen wood here and there to clean up/move into piles to burn.

I have a few places where I'd like to move some dirt around for drainage improvements and such. I'd like to build another pond but am sure a little tractor like those within my reach would not be up to the task /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

I've never run a tractor and this will be a new experience for me, but I'm a quick learner /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif I'm looking to retire to this place in about 10 years.

Sounds like excellent bass habitat to me. Maybe you better check out the fishing before you drag all those trees out of the water /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

LOL - well trust me, I'll never get all the underwater brush out, I'll have to settle for the big ones sticking up /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

In fact, I'm planning on putting some channel cat and bass in there in early may when the fish truck passes through /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif

Trust me on this - you need to list your website! Everyone out here wants to see pictures, pictures and more pictures. /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif For example, check out 19th_VA or MossRoad. /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif

At least post some pictures of you property, especially of your pond, now that you've whetted our appetite.

This is our dream paradise and we've accomplished a lot already but have years to go to make it what we want. But I think we're gonna need a tractor!

Thanks for posting the photos.
Wow - you need a tractor more than I do!
I just took a quick look through (have to get to work) but I can envision a machine in almost every one of the pictures.

( Wow - you need a tractor more than I do! )

LOL - I told ya! Yes, I've about worn my poor chainsaw out. I have cut down a zillion trees and hauled tons of wood into burn piles. My back is killling me /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

I'm lucky, the wife wants to do some disking and to plant wildlife fodder croplets - and we need a tractor to do that. So she is on board, there's half the battle right there!

By all means - in addition to advice about buying a tractor I could use advice on using one also. I have no experience in this area whatsoever. Mowing, hogging, dragging trees out of the ground (have a couple acres of cedar I want to clear) pushing them into piles all sounds good but I'm sure there are other uses I haven't thought of. Bring 'em!

I did buy the 'compact tractor' book advertised on this site and found it to have some good practical info...

Nice looking land and I particularly like the ping pong table. /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif Given the budget restraints after a new land purchase I would be tempted to look for an older ag tractor. You often see them in good working order for 5K and under but you don't find many with a FEL. Even with out a FEL you could start acquiring implements for your present needs that could be used on a smaller tractor in the future. The smaller tractor with FEL would be more maneuverable in your wooded areas but you will always find a need for a large one and might keep both. It looks like a rotary mower, box blade and post hole auger would all be useful for your present projects. A lager tractor would also be just the thing to have if you are going to develop some of the land into pasture for the horses.

Stick around and keep asking questions. We are great at spending others money.

I didn't know there any turkeys left up in that area; thought you had to go south to find them (I'm assuming those are wild turkeys).
