Used two bottom plows upstate NY

With all the rain nothings is getting done around here.So out for a ride yesterday in the pouring rain and found a small privately owned implement dealer.This guy has a few used ag tractors and a few small implements.
These are located in St.Lawrence co. upstate NY.
When it stops raining....I am going back and take some pictures and get prices if any-one is interested.
I don't need a bottom plow,I already have one...he had three sets to two bottom plows, a cultipacker,a sprayer and a rake.Plus some others.

When you are getting the pics of the plows, be sure to sight down each beam to be sure they are not sprung or bent. I always check condition of Points/shares, shins, landslides, moldboards and coulters. The parts to repair plows are getting silly high. Ken Sweet

If you sight down the top of the beams of each bottom, they should be straight as a string and not bowed up or sideways. Any 2 bottom plow that has the 2 piece setup (moldboard and share only) are worth next to nothing, because if you break a share there is none available unless you have a blacksmith make you one. You want the 3 piece setup so you can get parts if needed in the future. Ken Sweet

I just sold my Dearborn 2 bottom plow a few days ago off an add on CL. It was a 2x16" plow with coulters and a rolling landslide....and in nice shape....with the 3 pc bottoms.

I got $475 for it....and felt the guy got a good value (if he can pull it with an 8N ?? I dont think so....but he wanted a "period correct plow" for his showpiece tractor.). I just dont need a plow. With my tiller and disc....and my sandy soil....a plow is obsolete.

Ken there is one other thing that people need to be sure of and that is the condition of the frog!!!! That is what it all normal wearing parts bolt to but if someone wore the points in to far they have worn the frog and that gets real expensive!!!

For people looking at the old IH plows the Super chief bottoms are common to new plows and the parts are not like some makes and models that have been discontinued.

In gravel around here we get about 10 acres per point on a plow! In less abrasive soils it might go as high as twenty. The shin pieces are normally double the point life and the moldboards are probably 100 acres plus.

I do recommend for people to buy the plow with caution!! Some times I see the machine that is the cheapest to buy has the most expensive wearing parts!!!!!!!

You are exactly right. We can rework frogs in our shop and make them as good as new, however, most buyers off craigslist and at auctions probably would have to find new and expensive frogs. Ken Sweet

Some very important info here. Glad I caught it before I bought it. Could some one possibly post some pictures of the dearborn 2 piece and 3 piece plows. I have been looking for a small 2 bottom 12" or 14" but want to know more about what I am looking for. Thanks
