I have an 05 3320 with 90 hours on it. Ehydro,300x loader, cruise. I was thinking of trading it since the warranty is up soon. I had it at the dealer for a rockshaft issue and I inquired on the trade option. I was quoted mine plus 8500 for a 3520 or mine plus 10500 for a 3720. I was suprized the dealer was only offering 14k for mine but I guess I shouldn't have been. I then began to think on going to a 4120 instead of the 3720 since I'd gain more lift cap and I can still use my 448 hoe. I believe the difference between the 3720 and 4120 was only around 1500. So my first thought was to sell mine out right for 18k
and just buy the 4120 cash. I was concerned about the agility of the 4120 but the size difference is not too bad. I had them side by side. The third scenario is keep my perfect 3320 and upgrade to a 300cx loader for cheap. I really want the warranty since tractor repairs are $$$$. So with all that said, I need some solid opinions from the TBN gurus. Especially jcmstevens since he and I seem to have the same diesease.

Thanks

I think trading tractors is, frankly, foolish unless you have a specific need (such as more power).
If you're just worrying about a possible repair...maybe you should rent or lease...preferably rent on an "as needed" basis.

Of course, if you don't mind the financial loss...well, it's your money.

The sole reason I moved up to a 790 was for more PTO HP for a chipper. I never bought the chipper and I kind of wish I had my 670 back (especially since I'm not brush cutting my neighbor's field any longer).
But, it's not worth selling the 790 at this point in time.
I did look into a 3320 with power reverser because of the transmission. However, the advantages of the tranny didn't justify the extra $$$$.

At the risk of sounding like a snot. I'm the type that likes no hassles and I don't have a problem paying for what I want. Even though I change my mind like the wind. There is absolutly nothing wrong with my 3320. I just lose interest fast and I'm the type if it there's more power out there, I want it. I know it's is a foolish way but I can't seem to lose the urge to go bigger. Let's face it there's been a situation when using your tractor where more lift/hp would have help. No one can claim to never encounter situation like that. I'm young so my needs (wants actually) change fast. I just really want opinions like Roy's to make sure I think this out from all angles.

Matt if tyou are gonna trade, then shop around, you can probably get a beeter deal. Also if it runs perfect, I dunno about trading it in for a new one. Getting the 300cx might peak your curiosity again.

Nuru, I plan on shopping around. Just cause I can afford it doesn't mean I'm not looking for the best deal for my hard earned $$$$. I'm waiting on the CX price. I think the CX will be a good direction for me to head. I may wait a few years and trade. I just thought I'd persue my options.

Is it only 90 hours or is that a typo and really it is 900.? At 90 hours, you haven't even broke the engine in on the machine you have. Unless you really do need more power, I think maybe just trade loaders for this round of your disease. Or maybe buy a new implement or a gator or something else. I wouldn't worry much about the warranty expiring. The hit you would take for trading will pay for some major repair that you most likely wont have.

No, It's not a typo 90 hours. I have had my eye on a RTV or gator. I just figured I'd test the waters for a trade. Due to all the responses I'm beginning to think I'm out of my tree. I will seriously consider the 300cx upgrade and maybe a millonzi grapple instead of the trade. Surely someone out there has been in this state of mind in the past? I see trade threads all the time. I thought alot about the 4120 and due to the added weight and loss of maneverability it may not be the best choice. I plan to trailer the machine around a few times a year. The 3320 is a good fit for all my tasks at the moment.

Yeah, there's a number of guys who trade their machines in early. My 790 was used...had 24 hours on the meter. In my case, the owner needed more power (went for a 990 according to the sales person). That was a specific reason for a specific task.

Personally, I think most who trade just to trade are nuts or too status conscious (the "my tractor is bigger...newer" or whatever mentality) for their own good. Some guys didn't do their homework initially. Or, they get to the dealer and let there "inner kid" take over (I've been real tempted too...I'm not immune from that).

But, it's their money...wish they'd send it to me!

You've got two acres, GreatWhitehunter...what are you going to do with this machine?

LOL.... I think certain time of the year some of us all get urges to buy new.... I just purchased another tractor after having the 3720 for one month.. I kept the 3720, and I wanted a bigger tractor with the cab, but yet small enough to fit inbetween the trees... So I bought a 4720 on a whim.... The tractor is nice, but its nothing like what I expected rreading on here..... When using it to its specs, filling the 400cx loader to the limit with sand. Its just as tippy as my 3720, which is not bad, but I expected better.... The cat 1 3 point on it sucks... since most of my 50 hp attachments are cat 2....

anyway, sorry about the rant.. but your not the only guy who does stiff on a whim....

Roy, I'm in the process of buying 100+ acres. So I can use more power. I know I can do alot with the 3320. I posted this more for folks who have trade and what trade values are. I understand you can't understand where I'm coming from. I seems from the post I've read of yours that your in the KISS camp. And value to dollar conscience. I'm myself feel that you get what you pay for and if I want it I get it. I don't worry too much about do I really need it. Life's too short for that. I can see how it might seem crazy to trade a barely used tractor in but I also only keep trucks a few years. As to lots of folks. Some can't see the logic in that but I don't think it's about value it's about wants. I can't really justify the trade but let's face it most of use don't need tractors anyways they're toys. Nmu I think there must be something it the water around here since I get the itch to buy new toys all the time.
