Used values and what to trade to?

It's your money, Bro...do what you got to do...

One thing you never have to do is justify your purchases to a bunch of guys on an internet forum (including me!)

Of course...once you've opened the door...

Hi Hunter,

That's a great machine you've got right there (although the 300CX would've been the way to go)... to trade it without a bona fide project in mind--if clearing the 100 acres is in mind, think about buying/renting/hiring out a bulldozer instead!

Just a shame to make warranty concerns drive the decision... that new payment hires out a lot of the work that'd damage a tractor which is just getting broken in... my .02 anyway...

Course if you have to have a new tractor, you have to have it--I'm with you there!;)

Yeah, there's a number of guys who trade their machines in early. My 790 was used...had 24 hours on the meter. In my case, the owner needed more power (went for a 990 according to the sales person). That was a specific reason for a specific task.

Personally, I think most who trade just to trade are nuts or too status conscious (the "my tractor is bigger...newer" or whatever mentality) for their own good. Some guys didn't do their homework initially. Or, they get to the dealer and let there "inner kid" take over (I've been real tempted too...I'm not immune from that).

But, it's their money...wish they'd send it to me!

You've got two acres, GreatWhitehunter...what are you going to do with this machine?

Hey, Hey, Hey, Ouch, what do you mean status conscious, i thought that patio need justification was solid. Plus my wife really has got some stuff for me to do with this unit, like hoisting my son up to cut dead branches, ...etc LOL!:D

BTW guys, if I were to trade in my 431q0, which 3xxx series would be the closest match?

3320, 3520, or the 3720?

Powerwise, 3320 (about 32 or 33 Gross Engine HP, about 28 PTO HP).
All three of those 3xxx tractors are the same size and weight.

You'd have to give up those cool tires you just installed on your 4310, Nuru...

Matt, good luck with your search. If I had a tractor that I liked (and I do), I would think long and hard about getting rid of it. I got rid of a B Farmall about 20 years ago that I still wish I had. If money is not a problem (maybe I'm reading something into the post that your not saying), could you buy the unit you think you want and keep the unit you have now. Then if the new one is so much superior to what you have now, then sell the old one. But if the new one doesn't work out and isn't what you thought it should be, sell it. At least then you'd still have a tractor that your satisfied with.

I see where Nuru's tractor is turbocharged. Would that be an option for you to get more power out of the unit you now have? Sure would be a lot cheaper than a new tractor. And are you stuck with staying green or are you open to another brand?

Some time ago, Killer_b mentioned that perhaps we should start a thread about how much the "tractor itch" factors into the buying process. At the time he was moving from a Kubota BX2200 to a larger B series tractor........ though he could perform the tasks at hand with his BX. A dealer once told me that if we had to justify our tractors on a purely economic basis, few of us would own one. Some here suffer from payment regret too, and that factors in to their opinions. When we have worked hard, and have provided for those that depend on us, want becomes a viable condition, and the things that make us smile are more than worthwhile. Leaving our mark on the earth, and leaving "our" land better than we found it, and filling our sense of accomplishment is certainly a worthy pursuit. Have at it my friend, and don't let the naysayers bring down your excitement!! There are much worse things we could be doing with our time, and money!

I need to clarify my original post. I have no issues with my practically new 3320. The machine is great. I wish I'd opted for the 300cx loader for the few hundred pounds extra lift. My thoughts of trade were more motivated by the warranty expiring. I love my tractor, I'd love a 4000 series machine too. I looked hard at NH and Massey before the Deere and overall the Deere was a better machine for me. I'm also qiuckly becoming disillusioned with buying anything new. While I can afford to spend the money I know all to well how hard earned it is. I think everyone here can relate to the enjoyment of tractoring. I'm a HP junky and if 33hp is good than 44 must be better. I realize this thinking is flawed but I still can't shake it. I can tell you I was recently window shopping and found a 110 tlb used that I really had to think hard about. But I was able to realize that although it was nice was way over kill for my needs. As my needs change maybe will my tractor choice. But right now a 3000 series machine fits the bill. If the opportunity presents I may sell my tractor and loader outright and buy a 3720 for the added HP and 300cx loader. I've really appreciate all of your opinions in this matter.

I never heard of a trade in as a good thing $$ wise for the owner - its convienent yes -but you can always do better selling it privately - then get what you want, with more $$ in YOUR pocket to do so. I think the biggest and fastest kick in the pants of what you have now, is get the CX loader. It will feel like a new machine IMO
Also regarding warranty I think you can still buy additional coverage as long as the original is still in effect
