Used ZTRs

it's a little early yet to have the mass fallout of the drought...but it's coming and I'm ready when it happens. I don't like to make predictions but I'll say within the next 4 months we should have a huge flood of used units going cheap. I'm hoping to score a couple ztr's before the spring on the cheap.

Don't know if you have found your mower yet, but wanted to let you know that Catching Brothers is having an auction at 10AM on Friday 2/29/08. Their flyer shows a Kubota ZD21 Diesel ZTR, & 7 different John Deere ZTRs up for auction that morning with no reserves or minimums.

Lesco does make a nice mid level unit, and the leftovers go on sale after the season. I saw a leftover in the fall that was selling for 6k. I have a Lesco hydro walk behind that I got as leftover a few years ago and like it. They use decent engines, drive motors and pumps, and reasonable deck thickness. Not top of the line but decent.

around here new steel decked dixons run about $80 an inch.
I've seen older fiberglass decked ones start at $1000 for 42" - and they end up needing a lot of repair.
Grasshoppers are real nice, too - but it's real easy to spend $3k-5k even used.

Thanks for the info on the sale. We have been on the verge of buying new one, but that should be worth checking in to.

I stopped by a JD dealer this morning and looked at the Ztrak 757s. Seem pretty good although not as impressive as some of the competitors. But the users seems to like them. The decks are stamped but are 7-guage.

I'm signed up for the Friday auction at Catching. I plan to go by and take a look and follow the auction via the internet.

I took a look at an auction from about 1 year ago. In that auction the JD 757s went for $2250 - $4100. They have 3 this time from 150 - 360 hours. The pics looked good on a couple.

There is also a Kubota Z21 but it has 1300 hours and looks pretty rough.

I participated in the auction, but as soon as I saw 5 year old Home Depot quality JD100 lawn tractors going for $1100 I knew there would be no bargains in this auction.

There was a really crappy Kubota diesel lawn tractor that the whole front end almost shook the hood off when I fired up the engine. Looked pretty rough too. It brought $1500.

I physically examined the merchandise this morning and there were 2 JD 757s and the kubota ZD21 i wanted to bid on. The Kubota actually looked much better in person and seemed to run great. With 1300 hours I was willing to go $4000 for it, but it sold for $5650. I was looking to spend $3000 - $4000.

The 2 JD 757s went for $5900 adn $6250, which seems way high considering a new JD 757 with 60" 7-iron II deck is $8300. These mowers were pretty decent but had 150 - 350 hours.

I guess I'm gonna have to buy a new hustler or scag.
