I have a skid steer auger. I wanted a planetary drive auger that could be reversed, neither available from PT, plus the skid steer augers are an industry standard 2" hex drive. I'm using it with a skid steer to PT adapter at the moment, because with the skid steer mount, the anuger can be offset to auger all the way over to one side or the other. I'm not
Thank you for this. I will need a post hole digger in the future. I didn't realize the PT post hole diggers couldn't go in reverse? Did you need to add additional valving?

1460 adapter, same story. This was heavy to start with. For some reason they made it about 6" wider then it needs to be. I plan to someday cut off the excess but then will need to reweld up the holes in the box tubing.

Ditch witch stump grinder on 1430 via the adapter. It works great as it moves right and left using its own hydraulics you don't have to move the tractor.

They are pricey but the Ryan's rotating log grapple is the best I have used. It allows you to approach the pile in any direction (instead of only at right angles). I use it on both the 1430 and 1460 depending on the anticipated weight. You can also carry very long/wide objects down narrow roads by keeping the pile parallel to the tractor.

I talked to Terry when I was purchasing and at the time,
PT used a (IIRC, gearotor) motor for the auger, and rototiller, that was unable to reverse. I do not know that is still the case.

In actual use, I have only absolutely needed reverse once, so installing a 15gpm capable single acting reversing solenoid with a spooling neutral is on the project list, but not yet done. (Pricey little items) The one off reverse I did by switching hose ends. The auger had jammed itself against something, and would not lift, or turn. Swapped the hoses, got the auger out, swapped the hoses back and carefully angered the hole a second time since the hole had to be exactly there for a gate, and didn't find a thing. No root pieces, no rocks or rock fragments, nothing but clay soil. I have no idea what happened.

You could also enable a reverse with a couple of valves, or a 4-way valve. I thought about a 4-way valve with 4 couplers and some short hoses on it as a rescue reverse, which would be a cheaper option. ($80 for the valve, plus two 18-24" hoses, plus a set of four quick couplers) In thinking about it, I might make one with flat face skid steer fittings on half and use it to adapt skid steer implements without having to change hose ends.

All the best,

Peter

I'm guessing that you adapted a hydraulic motor to drive the flail mower, but how did you do it? And how does it compare to a rotary brush cutter? Doesn't throw debris as far? How does it compare to a normal rotary cutter when it comes to weight distribution and stability?

What did you do to handle the angle?

Seems like you added quite a bit of steel? Not just a simple weld the pin assembly to the PT plate?
Here is the sort of item that I bought;

So, yes, the rest of the steel I added. The cost of shipping on many of the other skid steer adapter versions just wasn't worth it. You have to get the spacing right, but the measurements are all over the web. I used 1x2 tube to space off the base of the PT QA plate away from the adapter. If I were doing it again, I would at latch locks at the closed position, and a little more angle. I used about 4 degrees (toward the SSQA), and I think 8 degrees (2x2" tube) might have been better, as vertical items like an auger don't care as much about angle, but horizontal uses like forks and brooms do. YMMV.

All the best,

Peter

You could also put females on the PTO out, and males on all the implement hoses, and color code them for normal operation. Then swap if you need to reverse.

Not nearly as elegant as the flip of a switch or lever, but I'd guess a whole heck of a lot less expensive.
