All depends what you need. Unfortunately front attachments are criminally expensive. Wouldn't it be nice if some standard could be adopted? Mounting scheme, speed, rotation.

I saw that Kubota offers a Front Mounted Flail Mower (using the mid-pto) for some models, but with the mower and equipment required to mount it, it comes in around $10K. That was the first flail mower I saw, so I quit looking at them :( That's why the comment about a 3pt flail mower (above) taking the place of the brush hog and finish mower was interesting to me. Now I see 3pt flail mowers can be had for a decent price :)

Someone made an axillary power supply to use the front PTO...

It kind of is a question, having a PTO already on the back, as to what will work better/nicer on the front?

I know one thing. After having a JD 770 with front mount snow blower, you never want to blow snow backwards again. Lucked out finding the right blower maybe twenty years ago at a municipal auction, for $1000.00, but that was still five times what a rear unit was selling for.

Your being in Ontario, I can see where a snow blower is a critical piece of equipment. Down here in Puget Sound, maybe once every 2-6 years I might need to get rid of a foot deep pile of snow the county snow plow leaves across the front of my driveway, nothing the FEL wouldn't readily push out of the way. The once every 2-6 year, 6" of snow in my area is a "snowstorm" that shuts everything down for a day or two :)

Blowers often aren't that great at removing that kind of snow. Often a speed bump is left behind.

Simple, but I'll bet it works :) Wonder what they use it for?

Any mid-pto I've seen was tucked in close enough to limit what can be connected, so IMO the sub-frame and belt drive are more than clever. That said, what if a guy used a shaft with double cardans to add an auxiliary hydro pump. If ground clearance wasn't compromised by any addition it might then allow using a hydro-motored front accessory (PHD, etc) with shorter lines and w/o tying up the rear PTO. I'm sure some of us would think this to be simpler that shaft-driven front implements.

There are also belt driven pumps that could be bracketed like the alternator shown in the post above.

btw, I've had/have mid PTOs on three of five tractors owned. While I don't know that POs have ever used them I agree that they are an attractive feature when buying, and none have yet been a source of leaks. t o g

WElYELL,

WoodMaxx offers competitive flail mowers, with free shipping, see screenshot

WOW - That hydraulic side shift looks like it would double the usefulness of the mower! Would take care of numerous areas where I normally break out the weed whacker.

I bought the mid-pto kit for my JD 1070 to run a MMM. After 1 season that was enough. I use a separate F-935 front mower (more maneuverable). I bought a 7' Woods rear finish mower (easy to hook up and go). The MMM interfered with hay mowing and raking so it had to come off more than I wanted to deal with. I entertained the idea of a front blower but my 935 can run the blower AND my 1070 does a better, faster snow job with am 8' snow plow running at any angle I choose. With a step down gearbox, the 935 runs my 540 rpm pto generator.

I imagined running a generator, hydraulic or water pump but these units are 540 rpm not generally 2200. SO, I'd recommend leaving off that option. My MMM sits in the back of my machinery shed with 1 season on it after 20 years.

Prior to specing out a new compact tractor (35-50 Tractor HP), I would like to know if there are many useful implements that can be run by a mid mount PTO (besides a mid-mount mower or snow blower) in the Tractor HP range I'm looking at? I won't be running a mid-mount mower or snow blower and I'm worried that adding a mid mount PTO would just be an additional (unused) maintenance point...
