Using a Box Blade on Uneven Land

/ Using a Box Blade on Uneven Land #11
View attachment 599845Thanks guys yes I’m finding that using any attachment on my tractor is a challenge due to sloping land when the tractor goes into a dip the attachment rises and of course it’s the opposite with an incline.
Almost every utube I watch is always using equipment on level land which is easy.
I think with regards the box blade on a slop I’ve dug the left and right sides in front of the barn then if I drag the fill down slope as the tractor is tracking the lower ground and the box is behind with fill it levels very unevenly.
I think the best way is to overfill the area with scoria then try and level the lot it’s seem easier to reduce the fill than to build up the levels.
Anyway I do thank you all for your suggestion. I will just practice more .

if the 3 point is set to float, which is what you want mostly with the bB, then it should stay on teh ground unless you have serios dips.

I also have a back blade and it is good for some things but I have more issues with it as it's hard to let it float - the BB rides on the sides of the box so is better at leveling/grading/flattening.

For moving sideways, ditching, driveway work I prefer the back blade - it will dig a lot more aggressively.

Thank you Pro fate. Yes I will get a grader blade but also believe their quite hard to use on sloping ground. But I imagine they float better.

It would help if you post a pic of your actual box blade, specifically of the rear-facing blade - need to know if it's hinged or fixed, and if hinged does it have a way to LOCK it down.

Hitch - do you have hydraulic toplink and tilt? another close pic of the box blade on tractor, as close as you can get and still show the box AND hitch components.

All the above will make it easier for us to offer USEFUL suggestions (in addition to some already good ones :=) ...Steve

I got rid of my box blade and got a rear blade that I can tilt, swing, and offset.

Now having said that to leve out my pasture, I placed piles in the low spots and leveled by back dragging with the bucket. I then attaches a 12' straight 4x6 to the bottom of my BB so it became a long wide leveler and ran across for the final leveling.

In looking at your picture you need to get rid of the grass/sod first and I would recommend some sort of filter fabric before placing the rock. Hope this helps.
