Just a quick aside: At least one manual (which I have never read) mentions caution when lubing univeral joints--saying seals may be damaged by overgreasing. Now consider that this info comes from older manuals, specifically I can recall reading it in my NH 273 lit. Perhaps a careful perusal of, say, my 1411 discbine manual, would not contain that advice.

I seem to recall that the 1411 manual does give advice on how many pumps to do for each point to be lubed. Now if we could determine that equivalency question on pumps vs shots with powered lubers /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif....

Alemite and Lincoln are both good brands that have been around for a long time. I had an Alemite that I bought from Tractor Supply Co. and it worked just fine. As for the "murder to pull off the fittings", I've had that problem, too, and you just need to loosen the nozzle; i.e., unscrew the very end of the grease gun a bit.

Some grease fittings are greasing blind seals.. that is.. if you overgrease them.. they can push seals out. The grease fittings on the wheel hubs of my 3pt mower are like that..
