Using a Pulverizer

 / Using a Pulverizer #11
A pulverizer works best on firm not loose soil. If you are going to have the ground disced anyway, you will probably find the harrow you have will produce a fine seedbed. If you broadcast the seed then the harrow set for very light penetration can be used to cover the seed.

If you really want to try a pulverize, why not rent one?

Hey Steve,
Could you give me the names for the top and bottom attachments, and maybe a rough idea of what they might cost? I am familiar with the middle kind of pulverizer, having seen them at Leinbach and other assorted tractor dealers.
Thanks
Brian

I have a Bx 2200, and I use a 4' Dirt Dog pulverizer made here in Georgia . For this hard as cement red clay, the thing works pretty good. I do light landscaping along with mowing. If the ground is too wet ,it will make a mess. But if conditions are right, it will turn this hard soil to powder. But depending on the job, sometimes I will run back over it with a tiller. That will really make a good seed bed. As far as turning ,big slow wide turns. even then you will probably bend teeth or roller spikes. But it works nice!

Brian, both are made by Brillion. check out http://www.brillionironworks.com
The top is a pulverizer in 3ph mode dont know price knew but they are a common used item around here for less than $500 in drawbar tow setup.

the bottom is a solid stand grass seeder which is what the sod farms use, I priced a new 8foot for $4000 maybe, it was a while ago but that size would be bear to transport on trailer or truck so I bought Landprides 6foot version for $2300 (7 years ago). Since then I believe Brillion has come out with a six footer. Brillion has thier own foundry and seems like they use a lot of Cast Iron parts (CI). CI is not as easy to repair as machined steel. the only castings on Landpride are the packer wheels (probably supplied by Brillion).

My old hay field / pasture back yard needs smoothing and slight grading. With a 18hp yanmar tractor and 4' box scrape the rippers do ok ripping but the grass root when torn out leave ruts. Would take days to crisscross cross these out. I've got a few ridges that I can grade with the box scrape but would a pulverizor or drag harrow be better. I just want a smooth ride on my lawnmower.

Would a soil pulv break up soil with some grass/weed?

FYI- ga red clay with better than avg topsoil. Weed/grass mixture.
