Using a turnbuckle for a top-link?

Bent the bejeebers out of my adjustable factory top-link, and am waiting for a replacement, but in the meantime...
Anybody ever use a galvanized turnbuckle in place of the standard top-link?
I suspect it's going to be quite brittle and prone to snapping? But it just might work! Definitely cheaper than a OEM.

You should be able to find a generic CAT 1 top link for under $50. A turnbuckle that size costs more here.

I would think a turnbuckle would be dangerous to use instead of the top link. On a box scraper you will put a lot of pressure on the top link when back filling. And if you already bent the top link how will a turnbuckle hold up. I have spent enough time in emergency because I tried a short cut or tried using a substandard part. Top link is designed for dynamic force, turnbuckle is designed for static force.

A toplink is really just a glorified turnbuckle. If you can find a VERY sturdy turnbuckle, then it should work in an emergency as a temporary fix.

Some folks use a chain as a toplink and, depending on what implement is being used, that may work. But bending a toplink indicates that it likely was used in a compression situation so a chain would not work for such an application.

Bent the first one using it as the brace on a mechanical thumb on the back-hoe. (curl in has a LOT of power!)
The Turnbuckle will just be temporary, but I think I will carry one around as a back up.

A steel turnbuckle should be OK. A junky cast mystery-metal one could be dangerous.

However, adjustable aftermarket 3rd points might be cheaper then a good turnbuckle.
