3-Point Hitch Using Box blade With No Draft/Float Control

/ Using Box blade With No Draft/Float Control #41
It never ceases to amaze me of the myths that abound on the internet about some function controls on tractors.

Your Kubota has float built into the 3pt mechanism & operator should only need to hold 3pt control lever in place if friction device doesn't hold control lever where set where last positioned by hand.
In case of that tractor (BX25), it has a simple lever that moves back to raise, center to hold in place and forward to lower the 3 pt. No position control and the lever just springs to the center position all the time.

In order for the 3 pt to drop all the way down to contour uneven ground, one must hold the lever forward or use a bungee cord. All fo that because, for some reason, Kubota decided to go away with the detent that they used to have the old grey market tractors.

Good explanation. Sometimes we assume everyone's tractor is like ours. That's rarely true. :)

Specially in these smaller tractors, they tend to use some different 3 pt control methods.

Thanks for correction. I'm glad I don't own one of the models designed similarly!!!!

Several years ago it was commonly known as "1/4 inch valving". Lately different brands use different language.

What it consists of is a self centering lift lever. If you pull it rearward and let go the 3pt arms will lift 1/4". If you push it forward and let go the 3pt arms will lower 1/4". It rarely worked as such.

So if you lower the box blade to the ground and let go of the lever it will not go lower without bumping the lever again or holding it in the lower position.

Not very convenient but if you find a low spot to drop the attachment into, would it then let it float at least to that depth?

Or they would drift because there was no feedback.

Sorry, Tx Jim,
You are wrong about my Kubota BX-25. I'll stand firm. When I hold my lever down It floats. Can see the effect. Not a myth.
see BX 3 Point Float Control if you like. Great Kubota site.
I do thank you for your contribution. Forums work. It never ceases to amaze me what I do not know, just think I know.

Great kubota forum (same link it think. I've never linked on this site.

For tractor owners that only have Position Control it's common to mistakenly assume everyone else does too. There are several colors and models of SCUTs and a few CUTs that use 1/4" valving. It's a way for the manufacturer to cut production costs. It's something that unknowing buyers sometimes overlook.

I think a buyer would be hard pressed to find a salesman that is going to point out that your desired tractor does not have Position Control. Unless they were trying to upsell you into a more expensive tractor. :)

If you have a few mounds or hills in your driveway the tractor with a fixed bucket rises and falls with your tires. A float bucket cuts those hills better. Just my take. Some good "u tube" stuff. I learned a lot last year on a cold day. Wanted to teach my son-in-law and make him think I already knew. Some r long and boring. Like this post is getting :)
