Using dyed diesel in a pickup truck

These are my questions:

Does the dye permanently stain any fuel line parts to show prior useage of dyed fuel?
How do the Feds or DOT check for dyed fuel in a vehicle such as a pickup? I realize that to check a semi is easy. Unscrew the cap to that big 50 gallon tank and dip a sample.
How often are pickups checked?
And where would they be possibly be checked?

I am just curious. I just bought a gas powered F-150, but now wonder whether I should have got the diesel........Dyed fuel costs $0.60 less per gallon.......

Based on your post I am assuming you know dyed fuel is illegal. And here in Minnesota because of the fuel prices they are checking pickups more and more. A friend of mine just got it big time. He even had a licensed farm pickup. However, he was using for personal. They tagged him and he ended up having to convert his license to normal as he did use his truck for personal usage also.

I have heard that it take several tanks to wash out the dye, and then it can still be in your fuel filter. It is Illegal, but some people do it. I know I would get caught if I did it. JC

Anyone know how the Red Dye Diesel Emergency Exemption due to Hurricane Katrina is handled now after the fact?

I remember reading Red Dyed Fuel was permitted during the Disaster Declaration for all vehicles... so what do you do now if the risidual dye shows on your over the road vehicle?

I have always wondered about the dye. I don't but enough to make it worth while so I have never used it. If the dye changes the color and stains the filter does it make it harder to check for other fuel problems? Like if it sits for a while fuel gets darker doesn't it?
