Using FEL as scaffolding

One big problem I see is that peice of rebar you could be inpaled on if you were to fall or trip

But that will do no good when the hydraulic line blows and the bucket comes crashing down with you on it!

I'm not trashing your attempt at a labor saving device, but I would be rather afraid to trust it very far. Too many chances that something "unplanned" might happen. I realize the hydraulic lock-out, the rear backhoe as a counterweight, and the stabilzers are all pluses...but.
I know, their are scissor lifts that will do this very job but the difference is that they are designed from the outset for this very type of use, whereas your tractor is not. I've seen people use their loader as an impromptu scaffolding before and I've never know any of them to get seriously hurt, but I still wouldn't try it myself.

They do sell Forklift Work Platforms commercially that could be used on fork attachments on the loader. Don't know how much the weight would be a factor. But at least these have the proper kind of toe kicks, railings and safety features.

Of course, they would be a bit more pricey than your design is! /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif /forums/images/graemlins/smirk.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

( Is this a bad idea? I’ve been thinking about improving my setup to include a handrail/work table, material holder and such. It would be nice to be able to cut and install material without going up & down the ladder. )

Of course it's a bad idea, but not as bad as if you rig up some ropes to operate the loader valve from up top...

A number of years ago there was a picture in the newspaper of a construction crew removing an old bridge (I79 near Fairmont, WV). They had what looked like a Case 510 BH suspended from a crane with the BH outriggers resting on top of the concrete pileing that they were chipping away at with a hoe-ram. OSHA was not impressed with the pic in the paper, and shut their operation down.

how about drive the tractor up to the side of the building and stand on the roof of it?.
the FEL can then be used to raise the boards ect up to you

Here's someone who built a work platform on top of their trailer. Scroll down the page until you see the tractor with plywood on top... tractor platform

OkeeDon - You first put trailer in your post which gave me a good idea. How about putting scaffolding on a 16' trailer, hooking the tongue to the 3 point on the tractor and moving it wherever it's needed? Leveling can be done with the 3 point. I'm building a barn (40x60) and have been beating my brains out on how too work scaffolding in this South Carolina sand. Thanks for the tip.

That's exactly what i did when building my metal barn. I strapped 6' scaffolding to my 16' trailer and used my tractor to move it around. My barn has a 14' cantilever roof that I sheet metal'd the underside using this approach.
