Ballast Using FEL without ballast

/ Using FEL without ballast #11
With or without ballast--
I have had enough 'puckers' on my hilly land that my standard motus operendi is to always have my hand on the lift lever 'just in case'.

More than once my fel has made the fastest gravity trip possible.
Usually it is because when carrying a load on sloped terrain the uphill rear has rolled over a stone or a bump giving it just enough heave to unbalance things.

Basic safety rules to transporting with a FEL:
1- Always travel with bucket VERY close to the ground.
2- The hand should always be resting on the 'down lever'.

I occasionally use the loader on my 4100 without rear ballast, but with the mid mower attached. Its better than nothing on the back (about 200 lbs, I think), but if I am going to do any dirt moving, I put the ballast block on.

I also have 250 lbs of wheel weights that I leave on to counter-ballance the snowblower and give added traction when plowing.

Ask the delaer for the operator's manual, it discusses the necessary ballast.
