Using my LS to split wood

LD1 - lets face it - man - I wouldn't want to be splitting 20 or 30 full chords per year with ANYTHING. I don't give a dam how fast or slow it was..............


When I burned wood my stand alone splitter was just that fast. I split six full chord a year - no bitchin' - no rips - no splits. Everything worked just fine.

I split 20-30 a year with mine. It's enjoyable not to be waiting on the splitter.

I didn't mean any offense. I clearly said it's alot better than a maul. And it is. I just wouldn't want to operate something that slow for more than a few cords per year.

And many people don't know about Regen valves. Thus why I mentioned it, if the OP ever wants to speed things up

You didn't offend me at all. I was just saying I'm happy with what I have. But I might have to look into a regen valve someday

Back when we spilt wood we used a 3 pt splitter that could go horizontal or vertical,
I preferred the vertical mode after placing a large tall block of wood under the bottom of the splitter,
Had it high enough that I could take chunks out of a loader bucket and set them on the splitter while standing up, no bending involved,
start unloading one side of the loader and put the split pieces right back in the bucket,
drive over and dump the bucket when all split.

Ha, ha - No LD1 - you offended no one. I just remember that my splitter had cycled back thru the return stroke long before I could drag a big round back over to the splitter.

I cut my trees into 15" lengths - easier to fit in the wood stove. The first ten, or so, cut pieces on the butt end of my pines were so big and heavy - I would dig a trench - roll the splitter back into the trench - the splitter I-beam would be level with the ground. Just roll the big 'ol round onto the I-beam - - no lifting.

This was the years 1982 thru 1992. Either hydraulic lifts hadn't been invented yet or I just never heard of them at that time.

I’ve got a hydraulic lift on my splitter and it’s by far the easiest way to split wood. I’m pretty sure if you had a hydraulic splitter they had been invented.
